GateGuardian Posted May 29, 2015 Author #26 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Fireworks! I read in other reviews that H2O was going to be packed for the fireworks, so we just watched the fireworks from the balcony. Not sure if there was music accompanied with the fireworks but we didn't hear any. Sorry, quality kinda sucks for the night shots. Balcony is on the ports side close to forward while the fireworks were on the aft port side. For this cruise, fireworks was scheduled at 10:45pm after leaving St. Thomas. GateGuardian Posted May 29, 2015 Author #27 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Ports of Call There for three ports of call for this Itinerary. Day 4: St. Thomas, USVI Day 5: Tortola, BVI Day 7: Nassau, Bahamas I booked this cruise primary for the ship itself so booked ZERO excursion. In St. Thomas, we just took a cab downtown and shopped around. It cost $4/person each way and it is regulated by the government. In Tortola, the whole place is still under construction. I walked off the ship for about 30min and just went back on the ship, the whole place is just too dusty. Also, if you get back to ship later in the afternoon, there is a huge lineup to get onboard! In Nassau, we just walked around and did some shopping. I would say Nassau is the best port to take some great pictures of the ship.
GateGuardian Posted May 29, 2015 Author #28 Share Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) Post Cruise (Gold Coast Railroad Museum) My flight was did not depart until 8pm, so I rented a car and decided to go to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum. It is about a 45min drive from the airport and uses the same entrance as the Miami Zoo. Opening hours on the weekend is 11am-4pm. (Address: 2450 SW 152nd St, Miami, FL 33177, United States) There are some interesting trains here, both life size and model train. I was a bit disappointed that there were hardly any Thomas the Tank Engine related stuff since their whole gift shop was pretty much Thomas the Tank Engine merchandises. The most interested item at the museum would probably have to be the Presidential Rail Car, Ferdinand Magellan (also known as U.S. Car. No. 1). Also many retired trains, if anyone is interested is that. Edited May 29, 2015 by GateGuardian
GateGuardian Posted May 29, 2015 Author #29 Share Posted May 29, 2015 Final Thoughts My first couple of days on the ship, I would rate it a 5/10. It was crowded everywhere and the ship doesn't feel like it was design with a flow on the top deck. I feel like I was hitting dead ends or I would have to head up or down a level to get around something. I really got to appreciate the ship when it was in port when it was a much more quiet. In addition, I think other people were starting to get a hang of the ship and were more spread out. The entertainment was pretty good. I enjoyed Burn The Floor, not so much Legally Blonde. The songs just weren't that great. Also, not sure how it fits into the whole Miami theme. I really enjoyed the food in the MDR, so I never really had the urge to do any specialty dining. I was expecting luxury food and dishes as I'm not on a luxury cruise and I was able to find something on the menu that I enjoyed every night. By the end of the cruise, I would rate this a 7.5/10 and would definitely go back on the Getaway if they have better ports of call. I would also like to try the Haven next time. In addition, don't let negative reviews hold you back from trying the Getaway. There are over 4,000 passengers are this ship, so there are bound to be more people writing both good and bad reviews.
