Changes?

We haven't sailed with Carnival in four years and are about to go on a 7 day out of Puerto Rico. What has changed in four years? Room service? Lobster night? Formal nights(any?one?two?). Any other?

Thanks

There is 2 formal nights on a 7 day cruise. They still have the Lobster on the first formal night (elegant evening). Room service menu has gotten worse IMO. The music on the lido deck is terrible, no more island bands, just a DJ. The food has gotten better IMO. If you are a Gold member you are no longer invited to the Past Guest party. It is just Platinum and Diamond now.

Your formal nights will be Tuesday (Sea Day) and Thursday (St. Lucia).

New room service menu. Almost all freebie items remained but additional items available for purchase.

Going out of San Juan - the Liquor and Beverage Policy is rarely enforced. Feel free to shop in the liquor store in the pier after check-in and carry on your items. If security happens to "tag" your alcohol, you can easily remove the tag in the gangway before you reach the table on the ship.

IMO, no reason to kill yourself trying to be the first there. The area around the port is small and gets very congested with people arriving and leaving at the same time. We did this the first time we went, got there at 11AM, and it was a zoo. Nobody providing directions, no clue where to go. Last time we got there around 3PM, easy as pie, dropped off luggage and on the ship in 20 minutes (10 of that in liquor store) after being dropped off.

We had priority Boarding. One time it started at noon and one time it started at 11:00. We arrived at 10:45 and waited less than 10 minutes to check in and go to the Priority lounge.

Service in the MDR a seems to have gotten a little slower, but the food is still good. We have not tried the new American Feast/American Table menus; however, we will have those on our next 3 booked cruises.

Room service has added pay items and quite a few of the free items have been taken off. Instead of 4 hot sandwiches there are now 2. (Two of the new pay items are very similar to the 2 that were taken off of the free menu.) Someone posted a list that showed if you did not count breakfast, the new free menu has about half the items as the old one. The fruit plate and the cheese plate are 2 items I remember were no longer free. We only use room service for breakfast so it isn't a problem for us. The breakfast items on the free menu remain the same.
