tightend88 Posted June 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2015 We are going on a western Caribbean cruise in a few months and I always like to stock up on liquor when I am on cruises due to some of the amazing prices they offer. My go-to place is in St. Maarten but we will not be there on this cruise. I have a few questions: 1) are prices better in general on liquor in Belize or Cozumel? 2) does anyone have the name of any stores in those cities they like to go to for their liquor purchases? 3) since I drink scotch, does anyone have experience in buying scotch in these ports? I know these countries are not known for scotch but I thought I would give it a try anyway. Thanks
Rare crewsweeper Posted June 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2015 I'd say Cozumel. If you're on a Carnival ship, there's a Dufry shop right at the pier. Downtown San Miguel there's a Cosi Liquor store You might find a decent selection at the Mega Store and Chedruai (sp?) market too. which has a large selection. Taxi drivers know these places. Remember that Cozumel is best for tequilas and mescals, but Scotch is available. You might find some single malts on your ship too. Belize is a tender port so you'll have to lug the purchases back on a tender versus just walking down the pier. Belize has a nice rum, One Barrel, which is available at the tender pier at reasonable prices. I'd say other selections are limited. and no really large place to buy liquor. If you're in Roatan, you'll find Dufry shops at both piers. But otherwise, Eldon's Grocery in Coxen Hole would be a better non-cruise oriented place. Again, selection is limited. wadethegringo Posted June 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2015 Belize has been introducing some good rums in addition the the basics. They are available cheep. My favorite is Caribbean Gold from Cuellos. http://www.onebarrelrum.com/ http://www.cuellosdistillery.com/
Mrs.Gosse Posted June 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2015 I think we saw better deals in Mexico duty free but all 3 ports were having different sales (In March). We passed on a deal in Honduras and I was hoping to catch it in Belize. No such luck. Do you think maybe the website of the duty free shops might show their sales?
