Fun Shop Liquor Suggestions

So let's have some fun talking about how Carnival could improve the Fun Shop liquor selections. We all know its way overpriced, so let's not focus on that. I would enjoy a better selection to pick from to enjoy in my cabin.

If you could pick one or two liquors you'd like to see Carnival Fun Shop offer, what would they be?

Mine would be Kenny Chesney's Blue Chair Bay Banana Rum. That stuff rocks straight up on the rocks (pun intended). And since the Blue Chair Bay brand is all about the islands, I think it would be a perfect match for Carnival.

I'd like to see better quality whiskeys. Most liquor I can't drink straight, but a glass of a smooth whiskey before or after dinner is great. Problem is, Carnival only offers base model liquors. Single Barrel Jack and Gentleman's Jack come to mind. I'm sure my wife would say the same regarding rum. The standard lines of the brands they offer are fine if you're mixing them and can't notice much of a flavor difference, but when drinking them straight it can be a bit rough.

Wow! talk about timing. I just saw this thread as I'm on the phone with DW whining about the bars onboard not having my new Apple Crown Royal (which is the greatest drink ever known to man)! :):D

However, she just received word on the Carnival forums that they do have bottles for purchase in the Fun Shops so I am semi-happy!

Apple Crown Royal does sound good. Might have to try that!

If you buy it in the shops onboard they will hold it for you until the end of the cruise, i.e., you can't consume it onboard. I don't see Apple Crown Royal in the pre-cruise Fun Shop.

Do you know which your DW was referring to?

I agree Ryan. Cheap stuff is fine for mixing drinks, but sippin' liquor is a whole different story. You would think that since Carnival makes so much of its revenue from liquor sales that they would offer opportunities for enjoying premium spirits. Lots of people enjoy indulgences on vacation too that they might not always have at home. Premium spirits are a perfect cruise indulgence!

DW says that the Online Community Specialist on the carnival site forums confirmed that you can purchase the Apple flavored Crown Royal in the Fun Shops to take home but they do not serve it at bars onboard.

Apple Crown is relatively new so maybe the online Fun Shop has not been updated yet.

That would be nice but if not I'm sure I'll find PLENTY of other drinks to slosh down to help me drown out my "Apple Crown withdrawal"!:D;)

Good to know. Lol. SMH. Have a great time!

BTW, I loved Sunshine. Sailed on Sunshine over New Year's 2014 and had so much fun. I booked a 1A cabin because New Year's cruising is so darn expensive. It was the best 1A cabin I've had on Carnival. It had a KING sized bed and lots of room. Better than most inside cabins I've had.

Thanks for the great words about the Sunshine. We sailed her back when she was the Destiny and we had a great time.

We anticipate having even more fun now that she has all the wonderful amenities.

Hope you enjoy your next trip also. And be sure to stop by your local ABC store to pick up a bottle of Apple Crown Royal. It's great on the rocks and even better if you mix it with a little ginger ale!

Man, I sound like a TV advertisement!

Thank you! I will be on Pride cruising down the Chesapeake Bay in about 17 days in an extended balcony cabin. So I'm ready to get my cruise on for the 34th time! Excited as always about my next cruise adventure.

You will love Sunshine. Check out the waterfall in the Serenity area. Very unique to Sunshine. I had pretty good luck in Sunshine's casino too.

I will definitely check out Apple Crown Royal. Hopefully Carnival will make it available.

I would like to see smaller sized bottles. I wouldn't mind purchasing a bit of liquor (even at highly inflated prices, and even though I am not a big drinker anymore) but not a litre.

If they offered 375 ml bottles, I might be inclined to purchase one to have in the cabin "just in case" I wanted a drink. Or buy two - like vodka and peach schnapps to mix with some room service OJ.

Great suggestion! As someone who likes to sail solo I can appreciate this. It would be a great way to mix and match liquors to make a perfect drink in my cabin.

There are a lot of really good suggestions on this thread. I like the smaller bottle idea too.

Mostly though, I would rather them just reduce their prices some, especially on wine. The bottles they sell for 28.00 or 30.00, I can buy here at home in Canada for under 10.00 CAD. Granted, I have been known to pay those prices before. I would just be more inclinded to do so more often at a lower price.;)

I 3rd the suggestion for smaller bottles, even 750ml would be better, that along with a better selection of single malt scotch's. A 750ml bottle of a fine® single malt, no problem finishing that on a 7 day cruise.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to suggest single malt scotch.

Thanks, bar1068!

The problem is... They are hyper-aware of the cost/benefit ratio with their current offerings. Its one of the things about a cruise you just have to accept.

Not that I care overmuch, as I go into a cruise knowing what my alcohol costs will be, and I have been 100% successful in exceeding that number. Would it be nice if I could save money by buying booze up front? Sure.

I'm also one of those "On the Border" people with the drink package. Something I am also certain that CCL tracks very carefully as well.

Cruzan Banana Rum is great on the rocks, wish Carnival offered that & Tortuga Vanilla and Banana Rum. We sampled the Tortuga Rums in Grand Cayman & is a great tasting Rum.

Sounds like I am not the only banana rum fan! :-) It is great on the rocks. I have not tried the Cruzan brand in the banana though.

Definitely would love some more single malts and maybe a selection of small batch KY bourbons.
