pukekolive Posted June 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2015 Some time ago a passenger on the Star wondered why there was a representation of the Bayeux Tapestry on the landing of the main staircase on Viking Star as it is usually accepted to be about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 won by William Duke of Normandy when he conquered England. What isn't well known is that Normandy was traditionally a Viking-run area (Normans= Norsemen=Scandinavian= Viking). Also, around the time fo the Battle of Hastings, the Vikings fought a battle at Stamford Bridge against the English which marked their exit from Britain. An interesting article here about it: http://www.travelmavenblog.com/2015/06/cruising-viking-star-with-historic-bayeux-tapestry.html
