Agra (Taj Mahal) from Cochin

Would anyone know if it's possible to visit the Taj when in Cochin overnight - so approx 2 days/1 night. Guess it will involve flying but is it doable?

When we made plans to do this from Cochin we were to meet the ship in the next port. This involved flying to Delhi (with a connection), then a decent drive from there, an overnight in Agra, the return drive to Delhi, and another overnight before flying on to Mumbai. I don't see it feasible to go to Agra in the short time you wish.

At the time there weren't any appropriate nonstop flights from Cochin to Delhi, there may be now. Your cruise line may offer this as a shore ex, but that would probably involve charter flights. It would be very £££££.

Hope you get you get to Agra - the Taj Mahal is without doubt one of the most beautiful buildings and sights to behold. But with India being who and what it is trying to do it in such a short space of time will never work.

If it is at all possible, depending on where your cruise finishes or starts maybe a couple of days before or after will be the better way to go.

I understand that there are many factors involved - time/cost being the biggest, also visas can be a hassle, but the Taj Mahal is worth the extra 'whatever it takes' to visit.

We did a visit 2 years ago - land tour of the golden triangle - then a cruise from Singapore back to India - wish we had of been able to do do the tour after the cruise:eek:

It was a long shot but worth a try! Cochin is in the middle of cruise - Dubai to Singapore. Another time perhaps thanks

You're getting back to London somehow - aren't you? A stopover in Delhi could work.

Unequivocally NO. It's just too far - connecting planes and then a train/car ride just to get to Agra. Same coming back the next day. Also - possible weather/fog delays getting in/out of Delhi (depending when you go). Save it for another time when you have the time to really enjoy and appreciate (and also visit the fabulous Agra Fort).

 

Kochi is wonderful - a much, more relaxed pace than most of the rest of India. Be sure to take a backwater boat trip.... There are other interesting places to see as well. Some info here - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/8295b/10ca18/.

The distance from Cochin to Agra is almost exactly the same distance as London to Istanbul.

 

If your ship was overnighting at London, would you consider flying to Istanbul to visit the Blue Mosque ??
