All of this trouble over a free beer and a picture?

I will be on the Pride from July 5-12. I will buy the first person that sees me at a bar any drink they want up to $15.00. I'll even get you the fruity drink in the whale tail cup. I will snap your picture with my iPhone and email it to you right away.

You're lucky I won't be on that cruise....I REALLY want one of those Whale Tail cups!

Seems like a lot of trouble for one beer

Yeah, but you know how people are when the word "FREE" is spoken. Take your spurs with you if you plan to get there first. I'm not a fan of beer so I don't care about a free beer or being first for anything.

I never understood this race to be the first to the pub, and then recognition from Carnival's social network.

There is zero, or near zero, chance that any handicapped or disabled person will be the first to the pub, and therefore I feel that it is somewhat a discriminatory practice/custom for Carnival to prop up those without any physical disadvantages in a race to reach alcohol.

Well, someone has to lose. From the start of FTTF, I called it FTYW (faster to your wallet). Cruiselines make their bucks off of alcohol, so why not get as many people as they can to get inside your wallet? First people who greet you at the door is a waiter with several DOTD on a platter ready for your S&S card.

You'll need more than spurs - the pushing and shoving to be "first" can get quite rowdy. I've witnessed people almost coming to blows on several different occasions. All for mere minutes more ship time, something "free" or any other similar first-come-first-serve type of offering. It really brings out embarrassingly bad public behavior in an increasing percentage of passengers.

Be careful of who you step in front of or push aside. It could be someone like me who will push back.

Hmmm so the first x people inside RFP get a free drink... what is x?

Usually if you are on a B2B you'll get it. Also, those, like me, who are Platinum and in the first group boarding the ship after the wedding, you get there fast. My friend and I were first in the Frog on the Magic. Boarding started at 11am, we were onboard at 11:05 and in the Frog by 11:10am.....next two to walk in was 15 minutes later!!!!! The other couple looked disappointed.....

Once as first in the pub is good for me, I will gladly let someone else take that honor on my next cruise on the Freedom.....

so, x=2? Dang.

This is how silly it sounds to me. Perhaps they should switch to a "hold your own" competition on sea days, and promote whoever drinks the most alcohol on board on lido deck daily (without passing out) on their social media site. That way everyone, including disabled persons, can get in on the action and they can boost their alcohol sales too. If you win "Hold your own" on prior day, your first drink next day is free.

If I were in the big brother health insurance industry, I would love the file from these cruise lines showing passengers that purchase 15 alcoholic drink per day programs for their entire vacations.

Unfortunate, yes. Discriminatory, no. I'm one of those with disabilities and learned a long time ago, just like I taught my kids....sometimes life just isn't fair.

If there were barriers to the NECESSARY things, like food, water, or even the entertainment....then there's a problem. But something as silly as a free beer and a possible picture??? Not even worth mentioning. We'd have a pretty miserable life if we took note of, and complained about, every little thing that we couldn't participate in. I prefer to be happy about the things I CAN participate in.

I'm just glad I'm able to cruise. Period. :)

Should I wear my stilettos or out maneuver you with my tricked out motorized wheelchair?:D

Well, they're in the business to make money whether it be selling booze or gambling. It's no different than a casino. We go to Reno often because we get a FREE room for 2 nights, FREE booze while gambling, and if we slide our players card in the daily give away, we sometimes get a FREE meal or 50% off at the steakhouse. So, I don't fault Carnival for doing what they do, it's all about money and how they get it means nothing to me. I'm fairly savvy not to give in to many of their gimmicks.

You see this your way, and I see it my way. It's not in the context of anything necessary.

I am glad to hear that you vacation from time to time, and don't mind be left out of activities due to some form of disability.

I am very happy for you.

MizDaisiy....You have a great attitude about life. I would love to share a table and a meal on a cruise with you and your family someday! And the first beer is on me.

This is one time I think my disability is a good thing. See if I was in the competition to get there first, it would just cause me tons of anxiety, for a beer, and I don't even drink alcohol. I am super competitive. But since I am disabled I wouldn't even try. Easy solution! lol

That was a funny post. Thanks for the Race to the Red Frog Pub humor.

  • 1 month later...
I've seen on John's FB page that the 1st ppl in the Red Frog Pub get a free beer & their picture taken. How early do these ppl usually get there? Are they usually diamond & platinum? Should I even bother for the free beer? Thanks! :)

DH and I are four for four. :D (Breeze, Magic, Legend Panama Canal, and Legend Alaska) We are Platinum so were amongst the first to embark. We didn't push, we didn't shove, we even stopped for the embarkation photos. We did take the stairs once we embarked and may or may not have sprinted to the RFP.

There was a guy in Platinum area with me who jumped up and pushed his way to the front of the boarding line behind Diamonds. The Diamonds had quite a lead and sure enough Mr. push ahead was nearly running, I was behind him but the 2 Diamond ladies were sitting there enjoying their beer when we got there. Mr. push was a bit mad. What a way to start a cruise!

This does NOT sound like the way to start my vacation. Hope ya'll enjoy the "free beer" on the March 19th Freedom sailing! I'll be the person watching you run, push and shove to get a $4.95 beer ;)

I have FTTF & was curious if I should even attempt it, lol.

YES, we had FTTF in Galveston and tried 2 times. The first time, I hesitated and missed it by a Platinum cruiser and his buddy, who wanted the experience but gave us his beers (we were even in the picture with them and the rest of the cruise they referred to us as mom and dad) Second time, we ran and got there first. So FTTF helps, just don't stop for pictures, take the stairs and know where the pub is located on the ship, and you will get there first too!!! Good luck.

On our 1st Breeze cruise wife and I were wondering around exploring ship. We decided to go into the red frog to check it out. Bartender told us congrats you are first and being so the first drink is on us, what would you like. Wifey got a beer and I asked for crown and coke. Sorry no mixed drinks just beer. Sorry I don't drink beer, never have since 10th grade NY's Eve. Ok I will make an exception. Drinks are served, by the way we need to take your pic to put on screen and John Heald Facebook page since your first visitors on this cruise. Ok, who is John who? Really, you don't know John. Nope, he is a senior cruise director. Ok..
