margord Posted April 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Mappa2 We were there a number of years ago. Personally I would not go back. It is the only place in the Caribbean where I did not feel completely safe. There were armed guards throughout the city. I wouldn't say that it is dangerous, but I would suggest you take a ship tour. Coolmama_1 Posted April 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Our cruise in July had scheduled Caracas as well but it has already been substituted with Isla Margarita. It is my understanding that is very common so I wouldn't count on Caracas. Judy Till our Golden Princess Cruise

Pam in CA Posted April 9, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2004 We were there on a cruise four years ago and I loved it. We took a ship's tour of the city that included the Murano glass factory. Caracas is a cosmopolitan city that is over an hour's drive from the port over the mountains. There is great poverty but there's also great wealth -- some beautiful neighborhoods and big-city sights. Going to the house of Simon Bolivar is very interesting and the glass factory is fascinating. You don't want to do anything in or near the port.
