"Cheers" Program Prepay

Now I know it isn't possible to prepay for the Cheers program, however, has anyone pre-bought Cruise Cash to pay for it when they are on board? How was your experience? I'm just worried I am going to get on board and then be out $575.

You wont be. The cruise cash/bar cash/etc are all just dollars that go on your S&S.

We have bought $1000 cruise cash for each of 3 - 8 night cruises. I brought copies of my receipts along just in case, but both times it was all there and we were able to go straight to the Lobby Bar and buy it. I would love to pre-purchase it online though.

You can only purchase 500 cruise cash per person (there are only 2 of us so not sure if that changes with more people in the cabin). Maybe this is because of it being non refundable.

Sorry if this has been answered before...but what is the advantage of the cruise cash/prepay vs actual cash or credit card onboard?

It could help with budgeting; you put a certain amount of money aside for your cruise, and that is that.

A second advantage is that someone else can use their credit card to put money on your account for you.

But, there is no on board advantage.

So is it correct I can purchase OBC prior to my cruise? It is really a shame CCL does not let you pre pay the Cheers program. RCCL and NCL let us pre pay and actually have "free" specialty and drinks on my August 2016 Breakaway NCL cruise.

Yeah it would be nice for carnival to let us prepay for it. This is going to my way of prepaying that way I can budget accordingly.

I purchase cruise cash before I go. no photo or casino ones because cruise cash pays for everything on board:) no issues. I don't know about a limit as last cruise I only purchased 400. but buy carnival gifts cards as well and put them on your account as needed. They don't expire. don't lose them as no cash value. I had put 200 on my oba as well as the cruise cash last cruise. at the end, only 90 dollars on my ccard :D

I have been getting them since which is what paid our deposit for our upcoming cruise :). You can only process 5 cards a day on their system if you use them to pay for your cruise or put cash on your account.

What a terrible program that serves no real point. Just budget your expenses and plan accordingly. You really need carnival corp. to hold your money for you?

No need to be rude, some of us just prefer to plan ahead and have everything paid for when we get on the boat. It is called being finacially responsible.

I budget and plan just fine, yet I still use this program.

Do you have a savings account? Why? If you budgeted and planned accordingly, there would be no use, as the money would be in your checking account at any time.

I submitted the question on John's Blog, March 2015 & rcvd the below response:

Thanks for taking the time to write to us. I think a lot of why people enjoy Carnival cruises is not only the attentive service from the onboard staff, but the way we as a company take seriously ideas and suggestions from guests like you. I will make sure the most appropriate people here at Carnival see your suggestion.

Thank you so much,

John

I really don't know why they don't let you prebook it. NCL charges $5 less a day if you pre purchase it online. I think they would sell more of them if they allowed pre purchase online. Some people change their mind when they get on board, or they wait until the second day because they may not drink much on the first day.

So, clarify for me, you can add money as to "Cruise Cash" and you can use it for anything?? Drinks (all) photos, ships store, its NOT designated then right?? I was going to add to both bar & photo separately but was worried about left over balances not being used. Cruise Cash the best way then??

Yes, however you have to buy the Generic Cruise Cash. Do not buy the ones that are designated Bar or Photo. The Generic Cruise Cash will work for everything.

Thank you.

Generic Cruise Cash can be purchased on the CCL site and used/shown up as OBC?

I can do this and if I wanted I can also purchase AARP/Verizon at a discount for OBC?

Just want to make sure.

Thank you.

Completely agree with you on this. I think they should pre-sell them. Like you said, it only opens a revenue stream that you previously didnt have. There is nothing to lose. Cant lose something that isnt available to be lost anyways. Rather, you only have things to gain, like people committing to it before hand, they may have either been on the fence or change their mind once they are on board!
