Does HA ships have dining tables for 2 in the MDR or do you have to share a table with other cruisers? We have sailed on NCL & Disney and always were able to get a table for 2 in the MDR's.

Welcome to Holland America.

They do have tables for two in the MDR. You can request them with fixed dining or ask for one when you go to "as you wish dining."

We usually eat early, around 5:30, with the open dining option and always ask for a table for two. If you go when it's busier it is harder to get them. Often we have been asked after a couple of nights into the cruise if we'd like to have that table every night which works so well for us. if we know we'll be late due to a shore excursion we just tell them the night before. And if we don't tell them ahead of time they will only hold the table for 15 minutes so I think this is the best of all worlds. We have flexibility plus stability and the same waiters. Can't wait!

There are two tops. If you are dining in fixed seating, reserve one when you book. If you are dining in open seating, try to dine outside of peak times to avoid a wait. I think peak time is between 6:30 & 8:00 PM.

Some clarification - If you have 'open seating' in the MDR you can ask for a 2-top. Any of the other 'As You Wish' dining venues where you are escorted to your table (such as the speciality restaurants), you won't be seated with anyone outside of your party anyway. At other 'As You Wish' options like the Lido, Dive In, or Room Service ;) it is entirely up to you as to with whom you choose to dine.

Be aware that some MDR 2-tops are inches away from the next table. Others are great, but you may not have much privacy at some.
