What to do in Juneau if Helicopter ride gets cancelled for weather?

Fingers crossed for good enough weather next Wednesday when we're on Juneau, as we're booked for a 2:15 helicopter / dogsledding tour.

If we find that it gets cancelled that day (like, I'm assuming they call it within the first 30 minutes or so), can anyone recommend a "no advance booking" kind of excursion, especially a whale watch, we might be able to do?

I don't wan the whole day wasted (in port 12:30-10), but also don't want to book multiple excursions in advance, "just in case".

Thanks in advance!

In Juno: Alaska Brewing Co (free beer tasting and short talk/tour), Red Dog Saloon (not free, but fun), Mendenhall Glacier (inexpensive tour bus or really cheap city bus but a walk of a mile if using the city bus).

If they are cancelled, you have enough time to figure out something else. With a 2:45 PM tour it is difficult to predict in the morning. But more often then not they would cancel a 2:45 Tour by Noon latest. Get on the 3$ bus, go to downtown and you should be able to find out available tours in one of the many operator offices.

Usually all kinds of people standing right at the pier trying to sell tours.

I suggest- you now, take a look at shore excursion lists and select a couple more tours of interest. Have the phone numbers with you.

Actually cancellations- can happen, as late as, when you are in the helicopter. There is no fixed cancellation time.

If you want a chance of rebooking- best would be if this was your first of ports of Juneau/Skagway. Call the vendor/s asap.

you might be able to pick up a whale watch, try Orca Enterprises, which is across from the tram parking lot.
