Ed Posted July 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2015 We are booked with Island Wings to fly to Traitors Cover mid August out of Ketchikan and was wondering how close you will get to see the bears? Will a point and shot camera with a zoom lense be sufficient enough to get some good pictures. Not that I want to go out and invest in a new camera with telephoto lenses etc. For those that have been what are your thoughts? Thanks
bearbait Posted July 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2015 You're on a viewing platform just above the creek. Your camera should be fine. It's a short walk from the parking area to the platform but we have seen bears on the trail and around the platform.
Budget Queen Posted July 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 13, 2015 I too have been there a few times. I've seen bears up in the trees too. :) The platform, as mentioned, is right next to the river, so you have the opportunity for some nice photos. More important- know all the details of your camera, especially any manual settings. It's a shaded darker area. You may also want to make sure you have managed all your bathroom issues before you leave. The outhouse is pretty bad at the trailhead. :)
