bonniemari Posted September 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2005 We just found out we won a all expenses paid cruise including airfare in a blacony cabin on NCL Pride of America next month. We own a businesss here in our area and since we spend so much with the local newspaper they gave us this trip. We did another one in March to Cancun. But why they didn't consult with me first-I would have steered them directly to a Carnival Cruise-I snuck over to the NCL board and wasn't really excited about what I was seeing about the POA. We have cruised on NCL 3 times before (one was a 11-day Hawaii cruise) but that was before the freestyle dining started. But I wiil have to live with the NCL cruise, after all I'm not paying for it.. I told my DH we were still going on the Valor Jan 1, 2006-I need my dose of Carnival. Any of my fellow CCL's been on the POA? What did you think? bplazo Posted September 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2005 All I can say is "Dont look a gift horse in the mouth". I really think that you should be happy with any cruise on any cruiseline if someone was thoughtfull to give you a cruise.
BlueHerons Posted September 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2005 I can relate. I just found out my husband and I won a Royal Caribbean Cruise January 8-15th and the boards scare me. They seem to be fighting about kids on that board.
derf5585 Posted September 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2005 All I can say is "Dont look a gift horse in the mouth". It has been traced to the writings of St. Jerome, one of the Latin Fathers of the fourth century, who then labeled it a common proverb. from http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/23/messages/312.html
bonniemari Posted September 20, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted September 20, 2005 Oh don't get me wrong I am glad to be cruising-but as to the "gift horse" well like I said we got this cruise cause we spent major $$$$ advertising this last quarter. We would have spent the money anyway but it was certainly nice to get something like a cruise in return. The newspaper sent a group of us to Cancun in March and we had a great time as I am sure we will on this cruise-all I was saying is that I wish they would have chosen a Carnival cruise instead. BooBooMonkey Posted September 20, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2005 You will love NCL...don't worry! Our last 2 cruises were with them. Now I'm all worried about going back to traditional dining! LOVED the freedom of it. Have fun. Chantal
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted September 20, 2005 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2005 I read somewhere that the Pride of America has a casino, but they keep it closed during the entire cruise when the ship cruises Hawaii... Now THAT would be depressing... a cruise vacation with no casino... Do you think they "allow" bingo??? LOL Tom
derf5585 Posted September 20, 2005 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2005 I read somewhere that the Pride of America has a casino, Note: Due to local gaming regulations there is no casino aboard the Pride Of America. from http://www.7blueseas.com/cruiselines/ship.asp?id=100 If they were to retrofit one in the future, this would make a likely spot. from http://www.frommers.com/articles/2907.html
cali-croozer Posted September 20, 2005 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2005 It's free, have fun. Go with an open mind and stop looking at the boards if they are driving you crazy. Go to NCL's website and get your questions answered there---they must have a FAQ section like Carnival's. Stick to the ports of call boards to plan your port days. Happy cruising!!!!:)

bonniemari Posted September 21, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted September 21, 2005 Since we live about an hour from 9 huge casino's (tunica, ms) I can go to the casino anytime I want-so no casino on the ship won't bother me. I will just save money that way. We did an 11 day cruise to Hawaii 5 years ago-and I know how beautiful the islands are. Will just go back and see the things I missed the first time. This will be my 17th cruise and I have never had a bad cruise yet (even when cruising the old Commodore Line a couple of times) so I know we will have a great time. basketballmom Posted September 21, 2005 #12 Share Posted September 21, 2005 Hey, the Carnival boards scared me when I first came over here. But everyone turned out to be just as nice here as they are on the NCL boards.
