De De Posted July 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We chose well when we followed a fellow cruise critic friend's advise. Our guide, Dina was everything you could have asked for- friendly, polite and she had a wealth of knowledge! She made our 3 day trip memorable- from Peterhof with its magnificent gardens and fountains to the Amber Room in Catherine's Palace. The only negative we had( this wasn't Dina's fault) was our visit to The Hermitage. This was marred by the largest queues we have ever encountered. We went on Day 2( a Sunday) There were 5 cruise ships docked. All the other ships( large ones!) were only in St Petersburg for 2 days( Sunday and Monday) The Hermitage is closed on Mondays so they all had to visit the Hermitage on the Sunday. Maybe TJ need to re think the day they do their tour there. Surely it would make more sense to do it on the 1st day( Saturday) when we finally were allowed in( even though we had timed entry we were 45 minutes late getting in- Russian groups appeared to get priority!)we were rushed through( by the people manning the rooms- not Dina) All in all it was a disappointing experience. That apart a wonderful 3 days -and the weather was good( the only time on the trip really!)
