Walk from pier to old town

From where the ships dock how far is the walk to Old Town?

Also, can you walk to the Fort?

Most ships dock on the edge of old town.

If your ship is at the Pan American pier, it'll be much easier to take a cab into the old city. Once in the old city, the forts are accessible by foot. It is a bit hilly, and there's a trolley and tram if you get tired.

Most ships park at the piers on Isla San Juan. When you step off the ship you're basically in Old San Juan. The forts are maybe 10 min walk to San Cristobal, 15 or so to El Morro. It's uphill and hot, so make sure to take it easy and hydrate.

My husband and I have been to San Juan twice, and both times we walked the town, never using transportation. (granted, one of those trips we logged 14 miles that day on the health app)

 

One time my dad was with us, and at 65 and using a cane he walked from the cruise pier to the fort, but he was done walking after that, he used the free trolley to get to the other fort and then took a taxi back to the ship.

 

There is quite a bit of walking to be done in the forts themselves as well, so that should also be a consideration.

 

It's mostly an uphill walk on old brick roads.

When you have a port stop in San Juan, all you need to do is get off the ship and walk around. Everything is close. :)
