58Piano Posted July 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2015 We are going Aug 31 for a cruise to Cozumel. Before we have always done Passion Island. We always loved it. However some friends at work went upon my recomendation. They were highly disappointed. They said the water was cloudy and there was a lot of seaweed everywhere. Was wondering if something has changed. Has anyone gone just recently to Passion Island? On tripadvisor they recommend Mr Sancho's The food looks good. But the lounge chairs look like they are lined up in a row in the sun. Any comments?
scuabacruiser Posted July 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2015 It could have been a resent storm churning it up. If that was the case, probably most of the beaches were the same. We have never done Sanchos, but it has many fans on here. We have always used Paradise Beach. Great pool with chairs around or on the step down ledge in the pool. Chairs on the beach in the sun or in the shade or under an umbrella. Food and drinks are good at a good price. The price seals the deal for us. It's like $3 pp to use the facilities. If you want to use the climbing floats and water toys, it's like another $8 pp. We normally spend less than $75 total for 4 people.
Ariel0185 Posted July 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2015 We did Passion Island in 2012 and it was gorgeous! Currents can change water clarity, though. Last August, we went to Playa Uvas and had a fabulous time. They have really good snorkeling.
OCruisers Posted July 31, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2015 Have loved Passion Island several times ... but people I trust are saying that last big storm caused seaweed problems which seem to be lingering .....
BallFour4 Posted July 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) I'm a rock solid, Carnival excursion cheerleader for every port but Cozumel and it hasn't always been that way. We first went to Passion Island in 2002 and it was fantastic. Good food, easy access, nice length of stay, just really a great day. The second and third time were enough for us. The Twister Boat ride was a vomit comet for some, the time spent was short, and the food quality waned. Hello Cruise Critic. We ventured out on our own for Playa Mia and Mr. Sanchos a few times and felt like we were at summer camp. I wanted a participation ribbon for every event I did. Gaylor Focker, 9th place. Then we discovered paradise at Nachi Cocum. This place takes 100 people a day, they escort you to your own palapa umbrella, the chairs are not stacked on top of each other and the pool is fantastic. It's a short cab ride (you can walk down the beach to see the crowds at Mr. Sanchos) and the food and drinks are included for $55. total. It has been as close to perfect as can be for the past five trips. We have been twice this year and have two more booked. Google it, check their prices and look at their photos. Don't tell too many people. . Edited July 31, 2015 by BallFour4
javajunkie91 Posted July 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 31, 2015 We were at Passion Island a couple of weeks ago. Not a bad excursion but the food was awful. There were flies all over it and it was sitting right out in the heat. The beach wasn't bad, just some seaweed. Overall we had a good time, just left hungry. We did have good drink service, food was just okay and we ate when they first put the food out, however didn't feel like it was contained very well. Going back this December to Cozumel, do you think this would also be a good place to go for this time of the year? Also how exactly is the food handled as far as pricing in the all inclusive package? How hard is it to get one of the umbrellas at the beach area (do you have to get there early)? Any details would be appreciated since you have been there several times. Thanks! The closer you are to the beach, the closer the chairs get to each other. 3 pools now on the AI side plus good food/drinks/service and facilities. It is more crowded and lively than Nachi - so that's where we end up if my daughters are with us. When it is just my wife and I we usually wind up at Nachi or snorkeling at the Money Bar. It's a limited crowd so there is never any rush for an umbrella. It's yours for the day. The food is off A menu and you can eat at your lounger or at the tables under the big shaded area. 58Piano Posted July 31, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted July 31, 2015 Appreciate the comments! At Mr Sancho's they offer a romantic cabana and massage for two for $200 Do you think its worth it just to have a shady place to use? Our ship gets in port at 11am So by the time we get there it is past noon or 1pm So could we find a shady spot by then? I am sensitive to the sun so I need shade. Not interested in water toys. Just relaxing and swimming and eating.
JohninDC Posted August 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Arriving that late in the day (double check ship time vs. Coz time) I would not bother with the cabana.
