Newbie Questions for Freedom OTS

Thanks, Bob. That was quick.

Do you have any suggestions on what excursion to pick for Jamaica. My traveling companion and I are both in our 50's, fairly decent health.

If you have never done Dunn's River Falls, it's fun once.

Thanks for the tips. I would love it if you would share your personal list. I figure that you have had more time to develop a list of must haves than I will.

Shoot me an email and I'll reply with my general cruise packing list, this screen name at sbcglobal dot net.

As for Jamaica... take a look at the Ports of Call board (this one is for the Caribbean ports): http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=587

We've been twice, both times into Ocho Rios, and it's been several years ago. I think RCI docks in Falmouth now? Never been there. The first time, we did the falls. It was kind of cool and fun, but we were younger (in our late 20's). The gauntlet afterward (locals selling their wares) was intimidating, no idea if it's still the same, but we got through fine. You'll definitely want to do this through the cruise line if you are coming into Falmouth, because it's a good distance to the falls. The second time, we found a private guide on the board I linked above, but again, no idea if he's still around. I'm sure you'll find some current recommendations for things to do, hopefully including a few private guide options if that interests you.

So, does anyone have a map or layout of the Barefoot Beach Cabanas? Also, any pics?

When we were there we opted for the Hillside Cabanas. I don't know the price now but it was $175 in 2013. Here are some pics from when were there in 2013:

That is a Over The Water Cabana below.

(To get to the hillside cabanas on Barefoot Beach you have to walk up stairs,

but it's not bad unless you have mobility problems)

Thanks for the pics! Can't decide if I would rather have an OTW or Hillside.

I disagree with january as you may encounter cooler weather which will mess up any water activities you plan. We've cruised carib in late april and early may to avoid spring break and summer crowds and had great and warm weather. We avoid carib in fall due to trop storms. Early december is ok too although can be rainy in carib then.

Thumbs up on labadee cabanas. We had overwater cabana at nellie's in june and loved it. Fair snorkeling at nellies too by rocks.

It wasn't cold to us in January, but the winds were always blowing and have cancelled stingrays at Grand Cayman for us once and nearly a couple of times. We just try to schedule when school is in session.

One big hint I learned if you watch shows on the balcony (there is an area for suite guests) after the shows the rest room is only for one person. We went straight ahead into the casino where the rest room was empty. Sshhh don't tell anyone ;)
