MSC use pricing to manage their guests boarding criterea.

I know this because I tried to book a cruise on Sinfonia, which was a continuous circular 7 night cruise of the Western Med. The dates worked best for me to embark and disembark on a Sunday. This would have meant using Salerno a my embarkation / disembarkation port.

The price would have been £1499 pp. By delaying the cruise by 1 day and booking a Monday to Monday cruise using Genoa the cost was £449pp ( £1050 cheaper)

They use Genoa for UK passengers as well as N. Italy and continental European guests (eg Germany, Austria).

Barcelona is the MSC port for guests from Ireland and France.

My eventual cruise was Genoa to Salerno, which was 6 nights (embark Monday, disembark Sunday) of the booked (and paid for) 7 nights. but still far cheaper than my preferred option.

So in my experience they definitely use pricing to manage their passenger numbers on circular routes which have multiple embarkation ports, so your pricing is exactly what I would expect them to have as they try to make USA guests use Barcelona.
