When you book a cruise, how important is having a balcony?

We have a balcony booked on our first upcoming cruise. Reasons:

 

1. Compared to our last vacation at WDW, a balcony room was cheap! :D

2. I have never seen the ocean, thought this would be a great treat for us.

3. My ridiculous reason - watching the news a couple years ago where all those people were stuck on that ship without power, I figure at least I'd like to have a room with a balcony in that situation! :p
