eileen11 Posted August 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Has anyone who was given a free inside room ever been asked if they want to upgrade to a higher room? I am totally wonderful and fine with the inside room, but was wondering if the upgrade fairy leaves these rooms alone. Eileen
beta98beta Posted August 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) yes in 2013 on the Sunshine they did call but we turned it down, I think they wanted us to pay $100 each to upgrade to a window. We didn't... I'm glad we didn't, that was more money to use on other things. We ended up doing the Chef's table for the first time on that cruise and loved it! You really don't spend much time in the room anyway and the sleep in those rooms are AWESOME, LOL. I haven't done a balcony in years, thanks to the free or discounted cruises. And I used to only do aft wrap balconies. Now I do inside or if they have oceanview deluxe I will do those to get the extra 1/2 bathroom (which comes in handy as I usually travel with my sis of bff, two women need two sinks, LOL). Went from a free inside to an extended balcony for $500.

BTW what does this have to do with casino?
Davey Wavey Posted August 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2015 BTW what does this have to do with casino? The free interior offer was probably a casino offer. I haven't had the upsale fairy call, but I have always upgraded my interior to a balcony. My wife spends all her free time on the balcony, so it's a mandatory upgrade for us. :D
hightownCO Posted August 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2015 On my last cruise (Premier on Magic in March), another premier cruiser got a free upgrade. She had a free interior and they bumped her up to Spa Balcony! I'm guessing even if a free room, you have just as much chance as anyone else for an upgrade call. I've heard the 'fairies' are simply given a list of folks w/cabin categories they would like to clear for sale and offer an upsell. Supposedly the list indicates your VIFP status. Have heard some will call high status, some new cruisers, some just random.

LOL - just thought it was almost too much to ask for an upgrade/upsell after getting a free cruise! For the record, I actually have tried emailing the Carnival Players' Club, and while they are very pleasant and responsive to my emails and even called me back on the same day I sent them an email, they were unable to do anything for me for now. There's very few cabins left and I leave in 8 days.... so there's still hope! Either way, I will enjoy the cruise!:) Edited August 14, 2015 by CruisingAmazona
CruisingAmazona Posted August 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2015 BTW what does this have to do with casino? I'm guessing, like me, OP received the offer from Carnival Players' Club and not actually from Carnival.

I'm confused, what's the difference? Our casino offers have always shown on our VIFP offers. Is the Player's Club something separate that you have to sign up for? Something different you need to do in the casino? We always just put our sign & sail card in the machine. (is that silly?) And, before the usual bashers show up, I'm not complaining, I appreciate all offers we've gotten, just trying to learn the difference.

This will be my 19th Cruise with CCL and my first time ever getting this offer. The envelope and letter did come from Carnival Players Club, so that's as much as I can say. Yes I'm a gambler, but no, I'm not a heavy hitter. If I'm lucky I do spend a lot of "time" at night in the casino. I really don't know the logic to who gets it, who doesn't and when and why. Only that I did, and naturally took the offer.

eileen11 Posted August 15, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted August 15, 2015 Yes, this was from the Players Casino. We are not huge gamblers, but do play slots in the evening for a while. We received a letter from the Casino offering a cruise for $50 PP and we would get $100 back in room credit. We have not sailed on any cruise for the last three years! We had, I think, 6 cruises to choose from...most of them from the West Coast to Mexico, but there was one that was from PR to Galveston....10 nights! Never having done this or had this type of offer, is why I was wondering if upsells were available. Yes, we are THRILLED with the cruise..don't get me wrong, please!! KatPem Posted August 15, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 15, 2015 We are going on a bounce back cruise in two weeks. When we called to book we asked how much to upgrade to a balcony (have to pay port fees and taxes anyway). For $260 per person including all port fees and taxes we were able to upgrade to an aft balcony! So excited!
RHilla619 Posted August 15, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 15, 2015 OP I'm surprised they didn't offer you an upgrade when you booked. I had a balcony comp offer from my land based casino and when I was booking they offered me to upgrade to a suite. You have 2 options here, you can sit around hoping the upgrade fairy calls. Or if your very interested in upgrading to a balcony, depending on the cost, call the booking number explain the situation and simply ask them how much the upgrade would cost. I can't imagine it being more than $100 a person.
