Pisa is a nice little town, but other than one small leaning tower it is not worth a visit. Florence on the other hand is the center of the renaissance.

Ha! Thanks, that's thrown a spanner in the works:)

So no how long is the coach transfer to Florence:D

Florence would be at mini 2 hr transfer but definitely worth it as it is a beautiful city

Pisa- the leaning tower and miracle field are worth a visit but if you've never been to Florence and not returning any soon then you might want to visit only Florence

Also from La Spezia, it is the perfect port to visit the Cinque Terre - should that be an option for you

I would second the vote for Cinque Terre - it's right on your doorstep from La Spezia and beautiful villages and coastline. You can do it by train, on and off at the 5 main villages, some are less than 5 mins apart - or you can do a hop on/hop off boat up the coastline.

We did Florence and Pisa when berthing in Livorno which is much closer than La Spezia ...... We're doing the Cinque Terre boat trips on the Anthem cruise leaving next week ... IMHO Florence is too far to enjoy the day .... I think the longest official cruise trip was 10.5 hours with only 5 in Florence itself
