Mack2015 Posted August 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2015 Hi, I'm cruising the MSC Preziosa on Sept 12 from Genova and one of the stops is Cagliari, Italy...Googled and didn't see much. I was hoping to get advice from someone who went there or knows about the island and what is recommended to do? If there's a tour group forming, I would like to know about that as well. Flygirl25 Posted September 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2015 Hi, I'm cruising the MSC Preziosa on Sept 12 from Genova and one of the stops is Cagliari, Italy...Googled and didn't see much. I was hoping to get advice from someone who went there or knows about the island and what is recommended to do? If there's a tour group forming, I would like to know about that as well. When we went there at the start of July, we were planning on walking and seeing some of the sights but the sight that was supposed to be a must-see was closed to be renovated. So instead, we just walked around and then took a city tour. There were lots of people heading to the beach nearby instead of checking out the city. luv2sail7 Posted September 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2015 You might want to check out Sardinia Dream Tours. I haven't been there yet as we arrive on the island just after you and a group of 8 of us contacted Francesco at that company who arranged a drive to Chia, a beach stop with snorkeling and picnic lunch with local food and wine. What's not to love? And if you google pictures, looks beautiful. Francesco has been very prompt and helpful with communication and can offer other suggestions as well. I will report back after our tour which unfortunately is after you arrive, but I like to share the knowledge. Have a great cruise / trip! agabbymama Posted September 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 2, 2015 Actually seems to be a few things to see and do on Sardinia. Check out this website. http://goitaly.about.com/od/cagliari/a/cagliari-travel-guide.htm or http://www.italia.it/en/discover-italy/sardinia.html Good luck and enjoy your cruise. 3 dogs Posted September 4, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2015 We used Sardinia Dream tours when we were there in April this year. They were great - I would recommend them. Patti Patti, I saw this and laughed...as you had the good Sardinia Dream Tour...as you know ours was TERRIBLE! In Sardinia- we were the unfortunate few who had a terrible tour with Sardinia Dream Tour- not a dream at all- no air conditioning in van, handed us a warm bag of calizones for lunch ( we threw them out- who is going to eat a calizone that sat in a hat car and risk ruining my vacation- no way!)- no wine provided (as advertised)- jeep was blue and clearly contracted out (not the white ones as advertised)...it was old. The owner of the company Francesco was rude when I complained- he wanted to know why we tipped the driver if our trip was so bad- the owner Francesco is a hot head who said we should not have paid. yeah right, I am going to refuse to pay a company in a foreign country- no way. He then said he had to pay 100 euros to clean the old nasty jeep because we got suntan lotion on the seats...what a joke. Be VERY careful with this company. Bottom line: Beaches in Sardinia were pretty but if you've seen one pretty beach you've seen them all- next time I wont even get of the ship in Sardinia. Others, like our fellow cruise mate Patti had a great tour, they were in the white jeeps as advertised, they had wine, cheese etc as advertised, they had air conditioning...and a great time. If you go with this company be clear...you want the white sardinia dream tour vans with air conditioning, and be clear what you will receive in terms of food and beverage. next time we wont even bother getting off the ship in Sardina. dsrdsrdsr Posted February 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2016 I've been to Sardinia, but not Cagliari. One option may be to ask at the tourist office if they have a bus timetable and a reccomendation for which route to follow - ride it, enjoy the scenery, quite possibly meet a friendly local who wants to try his English (we did!), get to the end, look round, come back. Amy Hey Amy! Good to see you on the boards. Yes, I do remember our two groups that day had different experiences, which was unfortunate for you. Our experience was opposite of yours with having Francisco as our driver/tour guide as well. We enjoyed the island so much that we now want to do an escorted motorcycle trip from Barcelona that then takes the ferry over to Sardinia and then up to Corsica and then back over to France and then dropping back down into Barcelona. It's 2 weeks and probably triple the price of a 10 day Med cruise, but you only live once! Maybe will do in 2017 for a big birthday present for Don when he turns a milestone age! Hope you and Jim are doing well and would be fun to meet up on another roll call in the future! Patti
