Tom Graphy Posted September 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2015 So what is your favorite NCL ship and why? Do you like the smaller more intimate ships, or do you go for features galore on the latest and largest? I have only been on sun class ships, but can't wait to try out some new ones soon! Skeener76 Posted September 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I'm going on my first NCL cruise next May on the Pearl and I can't wait! I've only been on Carnival so far Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare www3traveler Posted September 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I have had 25 Norwegian cruises on a variety of ships from The Sun Class to The Getaway. My standard answer to your question is: whatever ship I happen to be on the moment this question gets asked.
Tom Graphy Posted September 5, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted September 5, 2015 The jewel class looks awesome! I do want to try one someday!
maywell Posted September 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I prefer the Breakaway ships - more stuff to do, more nooks & crannies to get away from the crowds, more options, extremely hard to be bored on those ships.:p And believe or not, I like that they do mostly milk runs to the same ports because you can truly decide to either stay onboard to enjoy the quiet / spa discount or get off to enjoy the port stops / excursions. :)

The port stops are just little awesome bonuses. :D
NLH Arizona Posted September 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I'm not a BIG ship girl and really enjoy the Jewell class, especially the Pearl.
maywell Posted September 5, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2015 YES I go cruising for the ships! The port stops are just little awesome bonuses. :D Exactly, even Nassau is awesome when one truly thinks about it - its stay on or get off- type of port. Don't even have to buy excursion there, just get off; have a meal, buy bottles of your favorite liquor or walk down to the free beach - it all good. :D
Ozzie's Mom Posted September 5, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Hmmmmm. Jewel is probably my least favorite to-date. Getaway probably my favorite BUT I'm booked on the Escape in February and have a feeling that one will take over the top slot!
kmc86 Posted September 5, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 5, 2015 The Gem is my favorite ship... Perfect size, fantastic staff and crew, love the Spinnaker lounge and the Great Outdoors. Breakaway is nice and innovative but just don't like the crowds and having to make reservations for the shows. The Haven is a great escape on the larger ships.... janpo Posted September 5, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Pearl was.our first NCL ship and we loved her. The Getaway is probably my favorite so far. So much to do..big cabin..great food. The sky was my least favorite. We're sailing the Jewel in December which is the Pearls sister ship , so I have no qualms sailing her.
crayola1932 Posted September 5, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I . My standard answer to your question is: whatever ship I happen to be on the moment this question gets asked. Best possible answer! However, I guess my favorite is the Jewel; generally I like the Jewel class best. But I'm very fond of the Sun, and it goes to such great places! I'm avoiding the giant ships: less interesting itineraries, and no Promenade deck!!
rbrugler Posted September 5, 2015 #13 Share Posted September 5, 2015 We have been on 12 NCL cruises. The ships: Pearl, Sun, Gem, Epic, Jade and Star. Loved all of them but the Epic, and we had an accessible balcony cabin so it had a nice, normal bathroom. Hated the Epic. Will never sail on her ever again. smokie36 Posted September 5, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 5, 2015 I agree with www3traveler - whatever ship we are on at the moment is the best. The amenities on the larger ships are great. But, the NCL Crown was my favorite - I enjoyed the small size and it was also my first cruise (where I was bit by the cruise bug).
drvalo Posted September 6, 2015 #16 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I have had 25 Norwegian cruises on a variety of ships from The Sun Class to The Getaway. My standard answer to your question is: whatever ship I happen to be on the moment this question gets asked. I used to say that, but then I was on the Epic. I was actually anxious to get off of that ship...an absolute first! That's said, my favorite, hands down, is the Sun. Enough things to do, great entertainment, wonderful crew, larger cabins than other ships, the Great Outdoors and observation deck, and a more intimate experience. Love, Love, Love the Sun!!!!! ...except for the showers, LOL...soap up the walls and twill around to get clean.
Nola26 Posted September 6, 2015 #17 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I have been on the Sky and just off the Getaway. Loved the Getaway and if I have a week off would book it again. Interested in the Escape next.
Landl cruiser Posted September 6, 2015 #18 Share Posted September 6, 2015 We have been every NCL ship currently afloat. Much prefer the smaller ships to the larger ships. Favorites are the Sun and the Dawn.
DMH15 Posted September 6, 2015 #19 Share Posted September 6, 2015 The Sun. Love that ship. And my aft corner PH. And Il Adagio or whatever they call it now. And Great Outdoors. And forward observation lounge. Love the size. Best hull art. Could go on. And on.
LrgPizza Posted September 6, 2015 #20 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I've only sailed Epic, Spirit, and Getaway. Of those, I like Epic best. I loved the pool deck, where you could sit in one spot and see the slides, pools, band, restaurant, etc. It's so open. I also liked the stadium type seating at Spice H2O, which Getaway doesn't have. Finally, I preferred the locations of restaurants on Epic. Le Bistro has a nice ocean view, unlike on Getaway, and La Cucina holds a spectacular spot at the front of the ship. Spirit was fine, just too small for my taste. Getaway was great, but Epic was my favorite.
xriva Posted September 6, 2015 #21 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I've been on the Spirit, the Jewel class, the Epic and the Breakaway class. The Breakaway class fixed a lot of the issues I had with the Epic but they're getting too big for me. I dislike the Epic because it was designed so you won't know you're on a ship. It is all closed except for the pool deck. It's a floating Vegas resort. I can go to Vegas. I chose to goon a cruise. The Breakaway class added the Waterfront, where you can enjoy watching the waves go by from a restaurant or bar of your choice. That, to me, was a vast improvement over the Epic. However, after doing Transatlantics on the Epic and the Breakaway, followed by an eleven-day Caribbean cruise on the Pearl, I'll take the Jewel class. SenatorsFan Posted September 6, 2015 #22 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I've only sailed three: Sky, Pearl and Getaway. I moved up in size each time! :D As an introduction to NCL, I really enjoyed our 4-day Sky cruise and loved the spacious pool deck. Pearl was also nice, but I have to give the edge to Getaway. I loved the elegance of 678 Ocean Place with that chandelier and enjoyed being able to eat on the Waterfront and see the sunsets. :) Heather
Taijay Posted September 6, 2015 #23 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Hmmmmm. Jewel is probably my least favorite to-date. Getaway probably my favorite BUT I'm booked on the Escape in February and have a feeling that one will take over the top slot! My 1st NCL cruise is coming up in November on the Jewel. Being that it was your least favorite ship, please elaborate on why?
Barb Nahoumi Posted September 6, 2015 #24 Share Posted September 6, 2015 I love the Dawn & Jewel class ships. Our next cruise will be on the Gem. I have never tried the 'away ships yet, but maybe someday.
rbrugler Posted September 6, 2015 #25 Share Posted September 6, 2015 What about the Epic do you not like? I use a scooter when on board. It was very difficult getting around the Epic. Much of the casino is down the middle of the ship, and one can hardly get through. Getting by O Sheehans next to impossible. And on one cruise day they open this dang ten dollar store, and the crowd stretches down almost 2/3 of the ship. People stand in groups, and won't let you around. And for some reason, people on the Epic get off the elevators and then stop to look around. I back out, and scooters have no rear view mirrors. I hit one lady. Others had asked her to move, but she just stood there. And no outdoor eating area. Being surrounded by walls of plexiglass is not my idea of being outdoors.
