Sea Lion Encounter

Has anyone taken a Sea Lion Encounter at any port that was not arranged via a ship tour? I know there is one in Puerta Vallarta, but it is sold out if we want to take thru the ship. Also, how did you like it? thanks

Beware the Sea Lion Excursion - we had reservations for that but it was cancelled at the last minute and we were told the sea lions weren't being cooperative. Did they bite someone? I think there must be a reason there aren't more "swimming with sea lions" facilities.
