Cozumel advice please

Cozumel: Mr Sancho's Beach Club. Buy some Mexican vanilla in the port shops.

Grand Cayman: It rained the day we were here! Nobody wanted to see the stingrays, so we walked around, had pizza and shopped. There is a new "Minus 5 Ice Bar" there. We didn't get to go...but I wish we had. Google it. Looked like fun.

Falmouth: We booked with resortsforaday.com and were driven to Montego Bay and spent the day at the Rose Hall Hilton AI resort. It was like a 20 min drive in a modern a/c bus, and we got to see more of the island. Bus picked us up early enough that we were back to the dock area in plenty of time to shop around the gates shopping area.

Great itinerary!

Depends what you want to do in Cozumel- wander around downtown, shopping, eat at Pancho ' s Backyard. Get a taXi to Mr Sancho ' s beach club ( have a look at it on You tube) all inclusive for $50 per day is a good deal. Take a tour to the Mayan ruins if that's your interest.... The best excursion we ever did in Cozumel was the Royal Swim with Dolphins - book direct with http://www.dolphindiscovery.com. Go over to the Ports of Call board, there are pages of information about each port.

As for Falmouth- do some reading about it before deciding to go walkabout. For myself I would go to the new Margaritaville there, and have a lazy day in the pool.....

I also recommend Pancho's!

Several of you suggested not walking around in Falmouth. Just curious, have any of you done it? It seems a lot of people recommend not doing it, but I haven't read any bad stories of people who actually do. There used to be several people who encouraged it and one who even created a self-guided tour. What have you experienced that would discourage others?

Chankanaab!! And do the dolphin encounter which is at Chankanaab. Love that place.

Chankanaab also has a sea lion show, snorkeling, a bar and a restaurant, and a beach with grass coverings for shade. They have a tour that takes you to a Tequila tasting, and some cultural areas of interest. You can do as much or as little has you want. I went to the sea lion show, and I liked the snorkeling and sitting in the shade on the beach looking out on the clear, blue water.

There is a local company that runs some VERY nice walking tours in Falmouth.

I suggest doing one of their tours.

or a CULINARY walking tour.

We just returned and did the culinary tour in Jamaica, and it was wonderful!!! Highly recommend.

Also did Nachi and it was also wonderful!

We have only had one experience with Falmouth. We did some shopping at the port, but also had booked an excursion. I had really wanted to stay close to the ship (I wasn't up for a long bus/van ride), but had read some negative comments about walk around. I was on the lookout for stuff outside the port area for planning future visits. I can't say that there wasn't anything to do or see, but I didn't see anything from my vantage point on the van leaving or returning to the port.

Ok. I just read about Falmouth being unsafe but never really first hand accounts as to why. I summered in a Mexican town one year and never felt unsafe. It was different and more poor than I was used to, but I didn't see crime. Just makes me wonder.

Another vote for Nachi. Have done it 4 times. If you have kids, some say Mr Sanchos. If no kids the Bar Hop is awesome. About to do that for the second time. And unless you're looking for something unique, or really special, the shops at the pier have all the same stuff as the shops downtown. In other words, don't worry about making a special shopping stop.

In Jamaica I totally recommend Dunns River Falls. It's the iconic stop. Royal has an "express" tour so you can get back to pier and enjoy the shops and stuff there.

As for safety. I'm not afraid of scary neighborhoods. I've always lived in big cities. And I've been in a car chased by gun toting thugs in Johannesburg South Africa. (Yes, really). I'll take that again over an unescorted walk outside the pier gates in Falmouth. Just the vibe. But I'm sure some have had a different experience.

How far in advance have you booked this? I was thinking I had some time before our cruise in February, but maybe not--if someone said it's already booked 4 months out.....

We've been able to book as late as a month out. Maybe there is a large group already booked on your date?

Thanks, Bob, I haven't been able to check dates yet because the site is down, but I thought I read somewhere here that someone tried to reserve 4 months out and it was already booked. We are in port with one Carnival ship and Indy on our Brilliance sailing in February, so maybe I should look to book it sooner than later....

Really helpful!! Thank you all!

Think in Falmouth we will now book an excursion!

Really tempted by the beach club day in Cozumel so will see if places available!

I guess nachi cozum (spelling?!) is booked privately and not through royal Carribean?

Many thanks guys! X
