NOT US!!

As it stands now we are cruising with friends who have never cruised before...what would this group suggest are some absolute DO's and DON'Ts...one of each should be a good start.

Don't sail with Danno!! Is not an option....don't sail with DUCK is a given.

Danno, the most important DO's and DON'T's that I can think of:

DON'T believe all the hype, positive or negative.

For some, cruise expectations are all about sybaritic luxury, and most will be dissapointed if they expect the most exotic, extravagant experience ever. Some things are nice luxuries that you don't get at home, but, for the most part, the food isn't always Four Star, just a nice change from home, the decor doesn't match the most luxurious land resorts, but is attractive and/or unique to that ship, etc, etc.

On the other hand, it's an amazing break from routine, there ARE some things on cruises that are very pampering and/or luxurious, and it's truly a place to relax, and not worry about whether your experience lives up to an ad on t.v. or with other people's expectations.

Also, remember when people are critical, it often says more about them then the situation. If you meet someone who says in the first two minutes that this is a horrible expereince, and they're never sailing this line again, or that it isn't nearly as good as their last 473 experience, DON'T hang out with them for any longer than is necessary, and only long enough to be polite to make a quick excuse, and DO run away as fast as possible. Career complainers love an audience.

So more on the DO suggestion list: DO enjoy being away from it all, at sea, with the potential to try food or spa treatments that you haven't done elsewhere, and DO enjoy the opportunity to meet others from all over. The social aspects of a cruise are a wonderful opportunity to learn new things, such as dancing or by attending lectures. Mostly, remember this is about relaxing and having a good time. DO have a positive attitude.

And go with an open mind, not with a set of expectations!

More than one do and don't- sorry:o

DO tell them they will be sailing on a ship (not a boat!) and it should not be referred to with "the" in front of the name.

DON'T expect their first cruise experience to be the same as your's. Let them create their own wonderful memories, just as you did!

DO join a Roll Call to learn about the friends you haven't met and to make fun plans for the trip. DO participate in the roll call, introduce yourself, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Phew, I was afraid Andrew had covered all the bases!:p
