jefffrompawpaw Posted September 18, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2015 I would like to jump in on this thread too. How does everyone get their best prices for cruises. Does everyone just go straight to the source like Carnival.com for example? I am self employed and can go on a vacation just about anytime of the year and on very short notice. My vacations are almost always booked around the best possible deals I can get and not around the time. Next week I'm taking my first cruise because we got flights for 23.00 each way ( 46.00 round trip) and the cruise for 4 of us was just over 1,000 for 4 people. I am a deal hunter, I go to 3 airlines websites almost every day looking for cheap flights and I want to know how to to it for cruises too Thanks, Jeff

Spirit is a budget airline and there aren't many extras, but thats totally fine by me , I'm just interested in getting there. You usually have to pay 20.00 per checked bag and carryons are extra too. But it's better than flying and you are paying for baggage when you don't need it. Right now there are 23.00 flights N.O. to Miami. http://marketing.spirit.com/traveldeals/air.php?s=2295 If that link does not work just go to spirits website, at the top is deals, then click on the deals they have going on. We are flying from New Orleans to Miami next June and we got round trip for 168.... Thought that was good deal but I must say yours in way better!!! We are flying Orlando to Las Vegas non-stop round trip for $30pp thanks to a Frontier sale! I did pay for one shared checked bag, but total for two including the bag was $109.96. We usually spend $800 for the two of us on that itinerary. We're also hoping for a sale on a January cruise. We booked the Dream 1/3 but want to do B2B including the 1/14 sailing. I had held it a few weeks ago @ $369 INS GTY but didn't confirm it as we weren't certain. I sure do regret that now.
lizardhowson Posted September 18, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) Please give tips on getting those flight prices! Being able to use those airlines depends on where you live. Frontier, for example, has a few hubs around the country and offers dirt cheap flights on occasion. But if you don't live near one of the hubs (say a couple of hours drive) you can't take advantage of it. I will also add that I personally don't see very many of the book last minute type fare deals very often anymore. As an example, our January 2016 cruise is nearly sold out. There are a few remaining interior cabins and they are selling for what we paid for a balcony cabin on Lido deck just 5-6 months ago. And our cruise has over 3 months before it sails. Have you read this thread ? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2260128 Good luck. Edited September 18, 2015 by lizardhowson

cmukid87 Posted September 18, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 18, 2015 Cruise fares do seem to be rising with fewer sales and fewer "good" sales. I find a normal cruise fare and use credit card reward points for double cash off (redeem $80 for $160 off) and a lot of people use CCL gift cards to save a total of 10%. The flights though, I can mirror what has been said. Those three airlines along with Allegiant make it more affordable. A crew of 5 of us flew from Chicago to Houston for a cruise in May for $250 total, round trip via Southwest.
IGGY63 Posted September 18, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 18, 2015 Getting back to the cruise 'deal' question..... Carnival runs promotions all the time, but often they are 'smoke and mirror' type of promotions.....often the same value one week to the next. They do however have better deals, but you really have to make it a part time job logging in all the time to get pricing. Best time to cruise is usually 'off season', and book a room in a category that has lots of rooms in that category. Book early, and watch for price drops as they try to upsell, and sell out the inventory on that voyage. You will get an OBC if prices go down. I hear you can spend a lot in the casino and get great deals, but I am not a gambler, so I have no idea really on this type of deal. Generally speaking, the earlier you book, the cheaper the fare. I am booked on the Breeze for November, booked it in June. I have a cove balcony and now the interior rooms are now going for over $200.00 per person more than the balcony I booked. Unless of course, you are a Florida resident which I hear get wicked deals because I assume are closer and probably more able to go on short notice....

I have NEVER seen a $50 rt ticket (nor $25 leg ticket) on Southwest to ANYWHERE.....we live in Chicago too, and are FF on Southwest, get all their emails.....NEVER saw fares that low???? Per Person?? or for all 5 people???:confused:
