Carry on

I believe you can carry onto the ship as many bags as you want as long as they each fit into the X-ray machine (about the size of one at the airports). IF you board before 1pm the cabins will not be open so you will have to carry them all with you til you can get into your cabin.

Oh yes! You can carry-on as much as you want to attempt the schlep. DD and I made quite the sight heading up the ramp in Baltimore for our Christmastime cruise. DD was determined that we had to carry on all the Christmas decorations (2 rolling cases and 2 duffles) and we also had the 2 garment bags and the over-the-shoulder bag with the toiletries. She wanted to start decorating as soon as we got to the cabin, rather than waiting for the checked bags to arrive.

One woman who passed us en route to the photographer commented that at least we wouldn't have to wait for our checked bags and DD gaily called back that we had three checked pieces coming yet. Such is the fate of over-packers who drive to the port. :)

Cabin availability could be a little later than 1 PM so keep that in mind. I was told by a fellow cruiser that wine needs to be in your carry on. We try to pack things in carry on that we need to use in case luggage is late.

Just to inform everyone who sees this:

There is no REQUIREMENT for wine to be in your carry-on. It is merely highly advisable.

If bottles are spotted on the security scanners inside checked bags, you may be called down to the bottom deck to open your suitcase for staff who want to verify that you are not smuggling prohibited things. (and there is the issue of rough handling and breakage)

To avoid that, put your wine bottles in your carry on. But if you want to take your chances in your checked bag, go ahead.

Wouldn't that mean you would be able to carry 4 bottles? They wouldn't know at security that you already have two in your luggage?
