Statue of Liberty

I am thinking of going to the Statue of Liberty the day before our June 2016 cruise out of New York. We have two boys, ages 6 and 9, not super active, more laid back book readers. I see going to the crown requires a long walk up narrow stairs. A total of 377 steps, according to park web site.

Has anyone down this? Is it too much for young children?

Any other advice?

I thought I read you can reserve tickets one year in advance, but it looks like 6 months on web site. Is 6 months correct?

Took my six year old last year and he really enjoyed it. The guided tour headset has a kids setting. We did not go to the crown. Tickets were sold out way far in advance. Recommend getting those tickets if you want to do that.
