Fascination MDR lunch? Onboard texting?

Is the MDR open on embarkation day? Or is buffet, deli, pizza, or wok the only lunch options? Also is there an option to text each other onboard? We will have 2 kids that we would like to stay in touch with whole onboard. We went on a cruise last year with NCL and they had an app. Thanks!

Just off the Fascination yesterday. The dining room was not open for lunch on embarkation day; and oddly enough we went 2 other times for lunch and it was not open.

Thank you! I didn't think so but glad to confirm. I think they only offer the sea day brunch on sea days.
