Fee to go ashore?

I have seen in several threads that some ports charge a $4.00 fee to go ashore unless you are on a ship based shore excursion. Any truth to that? I thought the port fees we paid on our ticket covered that!?

any port fees I know of are already worked into the price of your ticket and it doesn't matter if you get off the ship or not.

There are no fees to go ashore...................port fees are paid along with your cruise fare.

No port fees to go ashore. Port taxes are included in your fare. Maybe you're referring to something like in St. Maarten where it costs $5.00/pp for a round trip on the water taxi from the ship.

In the Med, sometimes the port was several miles away from the town. We did pay $4 in shuttle fees if you wanted to take the ship sponsored shuttle. If not, you could walk or take a taxi.

The "fee" you mention is to go to town or for a shuttle once you are already onshore. There is NO fee to go ASHORE. Whether or not you get off the ship, you've paid the port tax which is included in the cost of your cruise. It's up to you where you go once you're onshore.

i cant find the original thread, but it had to do with paying a $4.00 dollar fee (island income) to go off the pier, unless you were on a ship organized trip. as much as i am looking i cant find it, so i guess i'll chock this one up to hazy memory.

 

one comment was about the ship changing itenerary, so i woudl assume that princess wouls pay the fee, but im not sure.

to the best of my knowledge, if there was a port change, those fees would be charged to your onboard account.
