Sea Princess formal night dress standards

Hi all.

We're 6 weeks away from our first cruise to the South Pacific islands and although I have read the dress code requirements, can anyone that has recently cruised from Australia to this region on Princess cruises tell me what to expect seeing the men wearing on formal nights.

I don't own a dark suit or tux but do have a very nice sport jacket and selection of ties to wear with black trousers and shoes. Would that be acceptable or will there be people looking down their noses at me?

Yes, very acceptable.

Yes, some folks will look down their noses at you. Personally, I wouldn't worry about them as you'll still be dressed better than others that meet the basic elements of the dress code.
