summersigh Posted October 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2015 We sail on Carnival out of Charleston. DH needs wheelchair assistance for embarkation and disembarkation. (he can get about - slowly- once we get on) Our TA notified CCL of this but does anyone know what happens once we arrive at the port - how do we get the assistance? We'll be in a hotel shuttle. Thanks:)
summersigh Posted October 17, 2015 Author #2 Share Posted October 17, 2015 Do we drop off the luggage before parking?
waywyrd Posted October 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2015 Yes, they'll take your luggage for you before you park. Not sure on the wheelchair assistance, but there were quite a few scooters/wheelchairs on our last cruise.
OCruisers Posted October 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2015 You drop off your luggage before you park ... but we're totally clueless about wheelchair assistance. Thinking it might be best to drop the person & wheelchair off with the luggage.
WendyVF Posted October 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 21, 2015 The hotel shuttle will drop you at a different entrance than the one you use for parking. If I recall correctly, they take the wheelchairs onto the boat at pier level.

The hotel shuttle will drop you in the proper location. Then you'll be able to ride a handicap equipped van to the cruise terminal. There is no other way to access the terminal due to Homeland Security requirements. Edited October 24, 2015 by ChucktownSteve
cjankowski Posted October 28, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 28, 2015 You will ride a handicap shuttle to the peir, then they will take you out the door on ground level and you access the ship via flat surface. No worry, just tell the port people and they will assist you. It was very easy getting into and onto the ship in this port.
TruckerDave Posted October 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 28, 2015 Don't forget to put one of the luggage tags around their wrist when you drop them off with the luggage. Kind of mean, but darn funny. :D (I'm sure some folks on here will get their shorts in a knot over this, because many lack a sense of humor on here, but I laughed out loud.) ChucktownSteve Posted October 29, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2015 Kind of mean, but darn funny. :D (I'm sure some folks on here will get their shorts in a knot over this, because many lack a sense of humor on here, but I laughed out loud.) Thank you for seeing the humor as it was meant. :D People who know me, know I go for the punchline. There's something in my DNA that prevents me from being politically correct. ;) PS, THEY did say they were going to drop the person in the wheel chair off with the luggage. I thought the luggage tag was a good way to keep the baggage handlers from delivering them to the wrong cabin.
