Rec. hotel near Port Canaveral?

The 3 hotels closest to the terminal are the Radisson, Country Inn and Suites, and Residence Inn. Of the 3, I prefer the Residence Inn--clean, nice staff, shuttle to the terminal, breakfast included, etc. The Country Inn and Suites is very similar. We found the Radisson to be a bit run down (but was being refurbed), and breakfast was included only in specific packages.

There are no "fancy" hotels that I'm familiar with in the Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral area. If you want the 4* with big atriums, etc. you have to stay in the Orlando area. But the hotels near the port do have decent rooms, complimentary internet, etc. Not lacking for anything we needed.

I also recommend the Radisson at the Port. I've stayed with them 3 times and have always found great rates on their website, they have transfers to and from the cruise terminal and their pool is amazing. Wish they were located on the beach, but other than that it's the first place I recommend to friends and family.

As ArthurUSCG noted, the prices in the MCO area are better than near the terminal and you have a better hotel selection. There is PLENTY of time in the morning to drive to the terminal or use whatever transportation you choose. However, if you are driving down I-95 or if you just prefer to stay in the Cape Canaveral area, those hotels are fine.

One to avoid--the Best Western Inn and Suites. It has been several years, but I usually don't give a place a second chance to confirm a bad impression. We drove from Jacksonville, and his place was borderline at best. However, it did have a suite available which we needed on that trip.

We like staying at the Holiday Inn Club Vacations Cape Canaveral Beach Resort (Old Ron Jon Cape Caribe)

It's near the beach and has a great pool area (lazy river, water slides, splash area for little ones). Restaurant onsite as well.
