Maui Beaches are they close to tender dock ?

In Lahaina (where the tender pier is), you can catch a taxi to Ka'anapali Beach. You can also catch the bus, but it's a bit tricky finding the bus stop (it's in the back of the Cinema Wharf shopping center) and it can get get crowded on the bus.

On our last cruise, we went to the Whalers Village mall right next to the beach, and it looked like a nice one.

Hi pawags - you mention 'tender dock' but a look at your itinerary (Carnival Miracle, Nov. 2016?) shows Kahului (not a tender port), which is on the opposite side of the island from where good swimming beaches are in W and S. Maui . The beaches on the Kahului side are more suited to surfing, although there is a beach in Paia which might be OK for swimming (depending on conditions), but I wouldn't count on it.

Where is the luau and are you doing it on a ship's excursion? If you are doing the luau on your own, you might want to consider renting a car for the day to enjoy some sightseeing/beach time prior to the luau.

Luau is threw Carnival and its at the Hyatt. Is there shopping around the cruise dock ? Looks like the beach will have to be at another port. Bus for Luau is not until 4.00pm. what do you recommend that will work with being back at Ship by 4.00pm

There are 2 malls near the port. The Maui Mall is across the street and the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center (has department stores) is about 1 mile from the port.

Kahului isn't a great place to spend the best part of your day in - going to the mall would be kind of dismal after 4 days on the ship getting to Hawaii. I'd rent a car and book a luau in Lahaina (Old Lahaina Luau or Feast at Lele) - that way you could explore first, and do the luau at the end of the day.

If that's not an option, is the ship offering a short excursion that gets you back in time to head to the luau?

Or, maybe you could take a city bus to Kaanapali earlier in the day and meet up with the luau excursion at the Hyatt?

I'd do whatever you can to make good use of your time on Maui - it's a very scenic island with nice beaches - you need to get out of Kahului that day before 4 p.m.:)

Check out the town of Paia and it's beaches online. It is a beautiful spot to spend the day with good restaurants. I don't like shopping malls at home so avoid them like the plague when on vacation but if you like shopping there are plenty of options in Kahului. Hope you find something really enjoyable to do. Cherie
