Another wifi question

Recommended Posts

I was reading an article the other day that most recent cell phones have the ability to be activated as a wi-fi hotspot. If so, maybe you can set up one cell and activate it as a wi-fi hotspot for your other wifi-capable electronics.

That hotspot capability uses the cellular connection. It's very handy when you have a big cellular data plan and aren't paying Cellular At Sea data rates.

No phone I'm familiar with can attach to the ship's wifi then simultaneously provide wifi hotspot access for other devices.

You could potentially use a laptop with two wifi radios (one internal and one USB attached wifi stick maybe) to serve as an access point / relay, but that's likely to require a bit of skill to make work.
