Having a very difficult time planning my time in Houston

Hello,

I am leaving NYC this Feb and heading out to Houston for a 7 day cruise. I have decided that i am leaving a day earlier and "MAYBE" leaving a day later. I just can't figure out what to do. I have checked trip adviser and i don't think I want to do museums or zoos.

So my questions are;

1) I am seeing a lot of threads on here about "Galveston", is this place worth looking into (if it's not too far from Houston that is).

2) Are there any big theme parks in Houston?

3) What can you tell me about "Kemah Boardwalk"?

I would appreciate any extra help i can get. Like i said, for some odd reason i just don't see anything interesting to do or maybe i'm not checking the correct websites.

Thanks

1) where are you sailing from? Galveston or Bayport?? Two different ports (both in the Houston area though). There are lots of things to do on Galveston Island (many many many threads on that topic in this section of the message board). Only you can decide if it is "worth it" or not.

2) no

3)http://www.kemahboardwalk.com is the website of the Kemah boardwalk.

If you are sailing form Galveston then staying on the island is probably your best bet. But if going out of Bayport then I would probably stay near Kemah. There is also NASA you can visit. (google maps are your friend to get an idea of the locations of these places and the two airports as you didn't say which one you are flying into.) You will also have to figure our transportation because compared to NYC the public transportation system in the Houston area is beyond dreadful. (there are also dozens of threads about transportation in the houston area)

There are no theme parks in Houston or Galveston. The closest to a theme park is the Pleasure Pier in galveston.

In Galveston, you may want to check out Moody Garden which has several attractions.

Also in Galveston they have Schlitterbahn water park. In Feb. they may have an indoor section which opens. Check their schedule.

We're leaving from the Port of Houston Authority.

Which ship are you sailing on ? Which cruise line?

There are 2 cruise ports in this area.

Galveston cruise terminal and Bayport cruise terminal.

From what you are saying, I'm guessing you are leaving from Bayport cruise terminal

In that case, if you are coming here one day earlier, staying in Kemah or Houston area, and do things around there would be better choice because it is closer to that port.

in Kemah there is the Kemah boardwalk and near that area, there is the Space Center

After your cruise and if you are thinking of staying one more day, then spend that time in Galveston.

That's weird. I'm going on the Norwegian Jade and it says "Port Name & Location

Port of Houston Authority

Ship will DEPART from this port".

I think we are talking about the same port, not sure what is the official name for this port. :) scroll to the bottom of this page, it says Bayport and the address:

http://www.portofhouston.com/cruise-information/

Bayport Cruise Terminal

4700 Cruise Road

Pasadena, Texas 77586

Norwegian is sailing out from this port. Verify your cruise document on the address.
