We are cruising out of Cape Liberty on Anthem of the Seas on Nov. 30th. and have never been to this area. We are flying into Newark, N.J. a few days early. Where to stay, what to do, transportation to port and back and is a 12:25pm flight home to early. Thanks!

What exact dates do you need a hotel room? How many people? Budget? What are your NY sightseeing plans? Any special requirements like bed configuration?

A 12:25 flight should be fine.

We will get there about noon on the 28th.. would need a room for two nights for two people. We like to stay in a hotel that has a restaurant/bar onsight and in a good area. That is not much time to see a lot in NYC, but would like to see all we can. Thanks for your response.

Newark is a highly urban industrial area. You have to be selective.

I'm seeing the Newark Penn Station Hilton for $139 plus tax for Nov 28-30. The hotel is connected to Newark Penn station by a skywalk. Train to NEw York Penn Station is $5.50/pp each way and PATH to the World Trade Center is $2.75/pp each way. The hotel has an airport shuttle. To get to the port you would take a cab for $55-65.

If you want to spend more money, that is certainly an option. However the NPS Hilton is a very nice hotel and a great deal at $139. If you go closer to NYC in Jersey City or into NYC itself, the hotels are more expensive (but still a good price on the holiday weekend) and your transportation costs go up to get to these hotels (no free shuttles) and to the port.

If you're looking for a more budget hotel, look at the Robert Treat in Newark for $104. It is a full service hotel with free airport and train station shuttle. I stayed there last Jan and was very happy. However, coming back at night I would take a cab to the hotel if the shuttle is not quickly available. It is on a quiet street across from a park about 6 blocks from the train station.
