JimC Posted September 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2005 We will be visiting China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand. We would like to phone home using our MCI prepaid card and get our voice mail messages. However, we have to be able to use a touch-tone phone which also has a pound sign in order to access our messages. Can anyone familiar with these countries tell me if, in general, pay phones have these features? We found once before that not all countries in the world have phones like ours. Thanks. Jim Gallup Posted December 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2005 Great news. Telephones in Japan, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong are far more advanced than the ones you have at home. In fact, in Japan and China you may have trouble operating them without help from a local. Viet Nam and a few other backwater countries still have telephones very similar to the USA. JimC Posted December 7, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted December 7, 2005 We just completed the trip. Using an MCI prepaid card, we had few problems escept in Vietnam where it was impossible to call. Apparently uou have to go to the central post office to make the call and we wer not there. In Japan, you must have a 1000 yen coin in order to access the MCI toll free number.
