Sparky2 Posted November 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2015 Who would hang one on the outside facing the hallway? I agree. The only thing I can think of is if it was one that had a message board on it. Don't even know if there is such a thing.
simplelife Posted November 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2015 If they have to be of fire-retardant material, probably the end of picking them up cheaply at a dollar or discount store.
crusinpsychRN Posted November 15, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2015 Who would hang one on the outside facing the hallway? They're talking about the cabin hallway.
Rare AtSeaWithChris Posted November 17, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2015 That makes sense, I can see it causing issues with the narrow space.
Athankfulheart Posted November 17, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2015 At the FAQ page on Carnival's website it says " Over-the-door hanging organizers may only be used if they are fire retardant and do not damage the door. (Must hang inside the stateroom.)" Its on the same page as door decorations at this link https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3256
Schoifmom Posted November 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2015 The really funny thing about this is that the decorations that you purchase from Carnival are NOT fire retardant :)
tw67 Posted November 17, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 17, 2015 I always use cheap ones in the shower and in my stateroom. I have no idea how to find out if they are fire retardant.
USNUZULOOSE Posted November 17, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 17, 2015 fire retardant I can understand. I would they object to them hanging in the closet?
beachbum53 Posted November 17, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) Soon after the new policy was posted, requiring that decorations and such must be fire retardant, I asked John Heald on his FB page how would the ship's staff be able to determine if something was fire retardant. ( I'm not sure if over-the-door organizers are labeled as such.) He said he'd ask "the beards" about it and get back with me. I can understand the part about restricting where the cabin door decorations are placed, but I don't understand why they must be fire retardant. If, God forbid, a fire should break out, I don't think a few decorations are going to make that much of a difference. What about the furniture in the rooms? The drapes, the bed sheets, the carpeting, the daily Fun Times, our clothing, etc.? There are a lot more things than door decorations to worry about. styxfire Posted November 18, 2015 #12 Share Posted November 18, 2015 Yes, and what about the 50-100 lbs of crapola we each bring with us in suitcases, and leave strewn all over the cabin... None of that is fire retardant. Why would 1 single item be required to be fire-retardant, while nothing else is? I say do what you want. Hang stuff where you want. And remember that if you damage ship property, you have to pay.
skylock Posted November 18, 2015 #13 Share Posted November 18, 2015 It is a feel good response to a non problem. As someone else ask, are the room decorations carnival sells fire resistant? I highly doubt it. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
Lerin Posted November 18, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 18, 2015 Who would hang one on the outside facing the hallway? Not sure about Carnival but Disney has online clubs called fish extenders. Basically a roll call. People give and leave gifts in over door hangers outside their cabin for other members of the roll call.

I agree with the others who posted previously and have stated that in case of an actual fire there's so many things that are in the cabin that are not fire retardant I just don't see how it matters. To me, my over the door organizer is part of my luggage. Mine is a foldable one with zippers and it buttons closed to easily fold into your luggage and prevent spills of shampoo etc. I will continue to bring it, but if asked to take it down, I will. I, like others have said don't see how it's more of a risk than all my clothes that I pack are...

jimdalva Posted November 20, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 20, 2015 I would think that if a product was fire retardant , it would clearly say so. That would be a good selling point. Suffice to say, most probably most are not.

John F Posted February 8, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 8, 2016 We just got off the Conquest (1/23) and did not put up an over the door organizer, but we did put signs on our cabin door. Magnetic tape will not work!! We used regular scotch tape and cleaned it off perfectly at the end of the cruise. Our cabin steward never mentioned it at all!! I am sure his supervisors saw it and nothing said. Saw many signs on doors all up and down our floor. Look great!!! :)
maurice1965 Posted October 13, 2016 #23 Share Posted October 13, 2016 My family is going on our first Carnival cruise in November. We heard about Carnival only allowing flame retardant materials on their doors. I researched lamination plastic and nothing found. Do you think Carnival will band laminated paper to put on doors? I made several cute ones for my family. I talked to a Carnival cruise rep, and they could not answer my question. Thanks Maurice
