Rosieo Posted April 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2004 No arcade. We were on it last week and when we couldn't find one we called the pursers desk they said no. DrivesLikeMario Posted April 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Well that's a stupid move on Princess' part!! Think of all the cash they won't be getting out of me and hundreds of other parents! Seriously, too bad they didn't do a video game room like on the Grand Princess. I don't think we'll even bother looking at the Caribbean Princess now. My sons missed the video games when we were on the Coral 2 wks. ago. You'd think Princess would want to keep these areas if they're trying to attract families (and make money too). -------------------------- '04 Legend of the Seas '04 Monarch of the Seas '04 Coral Princess '03 Monarch of the Seas '02 Adventure of the Seas '02 Ecstasy '01 Radiance of the Seas '01 Grand Princess '01 Viking Serenade '00 Grand Princess '99 Viking Serenade '98 Elation
ToplessPony Posted April 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2004 I'm with you Lady Jag. It is minor point to some (probably many) but I never have free time to play games like I used to and really enjoy that being a relaxing part of my cruise and of course my kids love it too. Now with only the Caribbean and later the Star too, both without arcades, going out of Ft. Lauderdale that is one of the reasons we are now looking at a Voyager or Radiance class ship for our next cruise (with the kids b.t.w.). Of course in the end we will probably go back and forth and then just end up back on Princess arcade or not.
stevewiz Posted April 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2004 I'm booked on the 7/3 cruise and I hope they have an arcade similiar to the Grand. My children will be very disappointed. They really enjoyed the arcade on the Grand especially on the "at sea" days.
S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2004 This seems like a recipe for disaster of there is no arcade. That's usually where my son goes to meet his buddies for the week and hang out. He's never gone to the kids programs in 8 cruises and I don't expect he'll do it this time either. Hopefully the kids will have someting to do and won't be sitting on the steps and running up and down the halls. ToplessPony Posted April 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2004 I've read that the Star is like this also. I remember a couple posts last year about it and the ones who answered seemed to think that although there was no arcade like on the Grand and Golden that there were a few games in the kids area. What they didn't know if they were real arcade games or just a couple Xbox's. I know that I will miss having one and am not happy that they removed it but we were on the Grand for a November cruise each the last 2 years and there really were not that many people in the arcade whenever we went in. With them looking for revenue through out the ship I wonder if the arcades were running at a loss for them. Just a thought.
DrivesLikeMario Posted April 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2004 The Radiance actually has TWO video game areas. One is up by the kids center and the other is right outside the casino, which is really convenient for parents that like to gamble. It's in the sports bar area, but to the side. (at least this is the way it was a couple years ago). My connoisseurs of video games claim that the games on the Radiance aren't as good as those on the Grand Princess and they're more expensive, but they have many more to choose from. So, bring plenty of dinero and they'll be happy! Glad to hear a video game arcade is important to other parents! I thought I'd get flamed for even thinking about it on a cruise. It really is a major factor for us when booking new cruises.
CruiseFever Posted April 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Wow, the arcade on the Golden was huge. I wonder it they have added something else in it's place...what did they do with that considerable space? S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 22, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 22, 2004 A friend of mine cruised on the Grand and said that Ryan (my son) would love the arcades on Princess. While not a determining factor it was a factor. Hoping for the best. Bill Caribbean Princess Eastern Caribbean cruise page

littlemommy Posted April 23, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 23, 2004 I too saw "arcade" in the midship section of Caribbean Princess. I looked in thru the locked glass doors and saw only large bolted metal doors. I asked if the machines hadn't arrived yet, but I was told that "arcade" actually mean "a passage way through the ship", not a gameroom (yeah, look it up in the dictionary)! I still doesn't make sense why it wasn't open though (it's just a passage way, right?) The only coin-games I saw were a few in the kids/teen clubs, not counting the one-armed bandits in the casino. Besides, do you really want your kid zombied in front of a video game? I'd rather they jump in the pool or walk around the ship.
S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 23, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 23, 2004 littlemommy, Yes I'd like my son to have the option to be zombied out in front of a video game. That way he'll be less inclined to get into trouble. Bill Caribbean Princess Eastern Caribbean cruise page

S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 23, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 23, 2004 You can tell Chris has been through the teenage years with kids. Too much free time on their hands is not a good thing. NancyK Posted April 23, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Stevewiz - we are also sailing 7-3-04....It is my husband and myself and Radtech and hubby and two kids - 14 year old boy and 18 year old girl. I know the 14 year old really enjoys the arcades - I'm sure he will be disappointed. Can't wait until July...NancyK
