laura1960 Posted October 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2005 For those of you who have taken two-way radios aboard cruise ships, what brand (and what mile radius) do you recommend? We took our two-mile radius Radio Shack walkie-talkies aboard ship, and we couldn't really use them all that well - the only way we could reach other members of our party would be if we were both on the same deck. Suggestions, anyone? Laura
photocruiser Posted October 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2005 We used Motorola 12 mile units. The only reason for those were the extra channels. We had about 2000 different combinations which would assure us that we would have a free channel to communicate. They work well on shore as well. I will tell you these require a license ($80). The radios came in handy in Belize City. Photocruiser
serene56 Posted October 3, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2005 Motorola 2 miles subchannels. with battery charger- worked for us even on the VOyager- you can expect to pick up the majority of the other people using the channels. Ships have voice mail that you can access. found this works easier for us on the last cruise.
