DANCING GRANDMOMMY Posted December 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2015 From Carnival's website where they are describing the benefits of the hub I copied this: Chat with friends The easiest way to communicate with your travel partners right from your phone (*Fees Apply) Can anyone explain to me how this works and what the fees are. Valor2005 Posted December 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) The chat feature allow you to message all the members of your travel party who have downloaded and paid ($5) for the Carnival Hub app. Sometimes it was a little slow when we used it, but it was pretty handy for letting your traveling companions know where you or if you need them to bring you some thing from where they are. It's texting, basically. It also give you information about events onboard. You can download the app at any time. If you have a cruise booked, it will show you a countdown clock. You pay for the chat feature once you're onboard and the $5 charge covers the entire length of your cruise. Valor2005 Posted December 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2015 I started to say it's $5 per device, but thinking back, it seems like it was $5 per user. I think if you have multiple devices the app will work on one at a time. For example, if you have it on your phone but want to use it on your Ipad, you would have to log out of the phone and log in on the tablet. You can have both connected at once. I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong.

Valor2005 Posted December 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) We used it for contacting each other. It's invaluable when trying to locate a shipmate. It also lists opening/closing times for dining venues, shops, etc. Gives entertainment times and locations. It's essentially a digital Funtimes. We used extensively on our last cruise and plan on utilizing it again when we sail next month. It's a bargain at $5, in my opinion. ATL_Miami_Cruiser Posted December 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) I can see this as a profit booster for Carnival. A basic IOS and Android texting app, a primary and secondary message server to process the text messages and funtimes info, plug it into their on board Wifi and at $5pp multiplied by hundreds of thousands of guests you got an almost 100% profit margin after all research and dev costs are recouped. Then add the app to all their cruise lines and further boost profits. Not bad at all Edited December 6, 2015 by ATL_Miami_Cruiser

eedee Posted December 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 7, 2015 I downloaded the app. Which was free. But I didn't purchase the $5 chat feature. Nobody in my party wanted to use the app., therefore it made no sense for me to purchase the chat feature. That being said, I still found great use in having the app on my phone. I used it everyday, all day. Instead of walking around with my funtimes I used the app. Many times members of my party would lose or forget their funtime paper, so they would depend on me to check my app to see what is going on and what is open. I also enjoyed a feature they have on the app where you and other cruisers on you ship can post pictures while on the cruise. I would look at the photos and see so many familiar faces that I saw walking around the ship. I really enjoyed the app.
Jeepenfun Posted December 7, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Just did a search for carnival hub in my App Store in my iPad and couldn't find it. Came up with a carnival casino slots blackjack, poker..... And one called cruise ship mates for carnival cruise, Royal Caribbean, Disney and all ships. And then some other basic cruise apps and a cruise critic app. Is there another place you have to download it from? Edit, I did however find it for my Andriod phone though. Andriod app only? Jenhem31 Posted December 7, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 7, 2015 You can actually chat with anyone on the ship who had activated the feature, not just those in your party. You're assigned a chat ID and can give that number out so people can contact you. Very handy
Jenhem31 Posted December 7, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 7, 2015 Thank you for the info. How about a review by someone on how they used it. What the did and did not care for about the Hub. Only thing I didn't like was menus were not available. Otherwise it's great. I love being able to check our on board account balance and see what dining venues are open. I downloaded to my Iphone from the App Store. I just did a search for carnival hub. Maybe there's a glitch with Carnival loading new specials into their system. I would try later. Otherwise, I would wait until you're onboard. They have tech support people available to help you.
Canadian_J Posted December 7, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 7, 2015 Can anyone confirm which ships have the app enabled and whether there is a rollout schedule published?
Rare MistyRo76 Posted December 7, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 7, 2015 We were on the Breeze in October and many in our group downloaded and used the App including the chat feature. It was mostly pretty handy...however, we found that it wasn't completely reliable. Some people seemed to experience delays in getting messages or would just get dropped off of a group chat. My mom was never able to get the App to work on her phone. She was one of the main ones who wanted to use it as she would often stay with our little one during nap times or in the evenings after dinner so hubby and I could get some adult interaction time in. It would have been nice for her to be able to send us a message when LO woke up and other stuff like that. But when it worked properly, it was great! Much better than setting up a predetermined meeting time or leaving notes in the cabin. I was disappointed that the menus weren't loaded into the app. That would have been great! Beeslilmama Posted December 8, 2015 #17 Share Posted December 8, 2015 Does the app only work displaying your S&S account if the ship has it? I would assume so, but just wanted to check.
