jrcover Posted December 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2015 Cruising at the end of April from Tampa, and need a room for the night before we set sail. Any suggestions on not too expensive, and close to the port?

If you don't need free parking, we found the Marrott Residence Inn downtown to have a nice package with airport and cruise shuttle included. JohninDC Posted December 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2015 Cruising at the end of April from Tampa, and need a room for the night before we set sail. Any suggestions on not too expensive, and close to the port? Tampa is not large - even airport area hotels are only a 15 minute cab/shuttle ride from the port. Westshore is the area near the TPA airport with lots of hotels, some dining options, and a large mall nearby. A nicer area IMHO, still close to TPA, is the Rocky Point area - several hotels there offer cruise packages that include both airport and port shuttles. We liked the Chase Suites. Ybor City is a fun area of Tampa not far from the port - great dining and nightlife. Avoid hotels near Busch Gardens, etc. - too far unless you have a rental car. Good luck! :)

RANTHEMAN Posted December 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2015 Just looked at Vic's link to Trip advisor. The hotels listed are all in St. Pete, Clearwater or the beaches. I have stayed at many of them and they are all quite nice. However, the listed distances from the port are wildly wrong. Those on the beach are listed at +/- 7 miles. Try 30+. Some in downtown St. Pete are listed at less than a mile, try 25-30. Just a head's up.
cindy1957 Posted December 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 20, 2015 If you want to be stress free don't stay in Clearwater before the cruise for only one night. Build in a few days before or after. Traffic can be frustrating even on a weekend. The hotels at Rocky Point like Chase will get you on the water but not the Beach. There is a Bahama Breeze next door that would be fun for dinner the Ishtar before. Downtown options include Sheraton Riverwalk and Courtyard Marriott. Both on the Hillsborough River. All fun options for one evening.
Ramjet1997 Posted December 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2015 We just booked 2 nights at the Holiday Inn Express - Rocky Pointe for a back-to-back later this year. Have stayed there several times - comp shuttle to the hotel from the airport, and reasonable, reliable shuttle transfer to the port on the day of the cruise. Is there much to do within walking distance from this hotel? I will be there with my niece that is 19 and we will want to do some walking around and maybe a little shopping. Thanks!
