Maybe this is a stupid question but I keep seeing people refer to the "upsell department" is there actually a different number or are people just calling the normal NCL number and asking the salesperson what the cost is for a better room.

Everytime I see this number posted it seems to quickly disappear, so if anyone wants it, write it down quickly. It is not publicized by NCL for obvious reasons.

Can you call this number if you booked through a TA, or this only for NCL direct bookings? Also, we tried to upgrade, pay for, a move from outside to balcony last week on our January cruise as the price has dropped significantly. Our TA was told we would have to pay the gratuities on the beverage package in addition to the room upgrade. We booked prior to the current promo, so we were not charged the grats at the time of booking. Is this common for an upgrade?

No. Not if you are paying the difference in cost of cabins.

We just did that for both our January cruises, keep our extra latitude points and our beverage package without the extra gratuities and went to balcony cabins on both cruises.

You are just paying the difference in the cost of cabins. You are not changing your original reservation, per say.
