Cheers changes?

I asked a bartender about the 15 drink limit if I bought drinks once i got close and he told me once you reach 15 it doesn't matter they are suppose to cut you off, no more drinks from the bars. He said some may not but he said he would cut people off because he could get in trouble if something happened like a fight or someone getting hurt. nothing has changed thats the way its always been he told me. We get a bottle for the room and usually have a drink or 2 while getting ready for dinner or if relaxing on our balcony in the day time. Saves running to a bar for a free drink which is a pain to bring back to the room. Every time you want a drink.

The above has been our experience too. They started telling us at about 12 or 13 and when we asked if we could purchase drinks, they said, "so you'd like to buy one for a friend?", as they nodded their head, and repeated that again when we were slow to understand.

 

Just more proof they were ignoring the rules (15 drinks max.....period) most likely in an effort to get more in tips.

If the bartender is saying that you can purchase a drink for a friend, then Carnival may allow you to purchase drinks for someone else and taking you over 15 drinks on your account for the day. (15 on cheers and the rest purchased.) The bartender leading you with a nod...you're buying this for a friend, yes? Lends me to believe carnival won't let the bartender sell a drink to someone with cheers if it is for themselves.

I think we should get our lawyer on here to sue them for not letting someone who purchases cheers to get more than 15 drinks even buying more, but someone who does not have cheers can have as many drinks as they want to buy. That is discrimination!

Not when it's voluntary. No one is forced to purchase the Cheers program and suffer on the measly 15 daily drinks you get from it (oh the inhumanity of it all). :rolleyes:

When you "buy" a drink on the Cheers program, does it show you how many you have had so far during that 24 hour period? I don't remember seeing anything like that on my regular paid drinks on previous cruises.

no, but you can 1) Keep your receipts or 2) ask.

They are pretty good at warning you when you get close.

I like to keep my receipts anyway to compare how I did on cheers vs buying though I do have more with cheers than if I was buying.

Unless you behaving in intoxicated unruly manner I don't think it should be anybody's business how much you drink except maybe your doctors! When I board the ship for my back to back to back in February I will have 3 bottles of wine and I will have purchased a liter of vodka so when my room steward inters my room he will see 3 bottles of wine and an entire liter of bought vodka on the counter for consumption he will presume during a five day cruise. I'm sure he will probably think I'm a lush but that's my business.

I was told by two different carnival employees that with the cheers program, the system locks them out from serving a drink to you. So, unsure if they can actually sell you one after 15. That is why people buy them prior to 15 as once they hit the number the system locks them out.

 

That's correct. They can't even sell you one after your 15th program drink.

No, it states that the program allows for a max of 15 drinks. I am an attorney (cue the lawyer comments) and review contracts on a daily basis. I interpret the rule saying that you can have 15 program drinks per day and will be cut off thereafter.

 

You say that some ships have looked the other way and some ships have not. Do you have any personal experience of this? If not, what is the basis for your comment to that effect.

 

Since your Mom and Dad are not there to tell you that you had enough, the "program" cuts you off. They also can cut you off if they think you had too much prior the 15 limit. It seems you are looking for a set of rules, that are in some sort of contract, but the reality is, that they can do what they want, regardless of any stated or non stated rules. If you are intoxicated at 5 drinks, and you fall across the bar, they will not serve you.

Regardless of your interpretation, you can order more than fifteen drinks per day. We had a get together in our suite a few years back and ordered multiple buckets of beer repeatedly all to my sign and sail card in addition to what we drank on Lido that day and a glass of wine in the dining room. No problem at all.

we are talking about Cheers and you are not though. Perhaps there is more liability with an all you care to drink program.

Yeah, I was talking about how many you could order within the Cheers program. Its my recollection that buckets of beer are specifically excluded.

Things have changed since they first introduced the program.

 

They were pretty loose about the 15 drink rule and went more on how you are acting. Even when they got stricter, you could still find a bartender or 2 that would charge you for a soda, but serve you a cocktail. Then they kind of stopped doing that very often.

 

The biggest change that occurred earlier this year is the combination of the Cheers program and the Players Club On Us card. Both now count against your 15 drink limit.

 

I think it's going to hurt casino revenue, there is no way I'm going to keep playing for 20+ minutes in order to get a drink that's no longer really free.

 

NO drinks in a casino are free. Believe you have paid over and above for every single one.

 

Having worked for years in a casino my favorite comment came from a patron that wanted to know how much she had to play to get a 'free' buffet ticket. :rolleyes:

How does the 15 drink limit work when you purchase a bottle of wine? Do they apply anything against your limit?

If they cut you off, you are done drinking for a few days even with the Cheers Program. I have seen it done.
