Rare CruiseRQA Posted December 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Any recommendations as to a good rum I might buy on our upcoming cruise? We will be on the NA and our ports of call will include San Juan, St Thomas, Gran Turk. Would be looking for something unique that I am not likely to find at my local liquer store. Not big drinkers at home but enjoy the occasional bourbon or G&T. I am assuming there will be some good rums that I might not find at home as well. GameHog Posted December 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2015 I would recommend the Mango rum from St Thomas. Just go to the local IGA store around the corner from the pier. Should be about $6.
cobalt206 Posted December 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Ron Zacapa is amazing. Very smooth.
boscobeans Posted December 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2015 Hard to find but worth the effort is El Dorado 21-Year. Not for rum and cokes folks, but for a real rum experience give it a try. bosco
SeaBands Posted December 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 20, 2015 the rhums of Martinique are really exceptional. Try the older ones or XO Mt. Gay from Barbados or the 23 yr. old Zacapa for Guatamala.

Rare POA1 Posted December 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I don't normally drink rum, but when I do, I prefer Ron del Barrilito Three Star Rum, from the oldest rum producing company in Puerto Rico. It's a good sipping rum, and it makes an excellent, but expensive mojito. Figure on about $30 per bottle. If you want something more high end, look to Barcardi cask rums. swscruiser Posted December 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Don Q Grand Reserve. If you are a bourbon fan you will love this. There is a Don Q walk through exhibit (Museum) plus store across the street from the cruise terminal.
