maxxboy Posted October 4, 2005 #26 Share Posted October 4, 2005 CD no question - for us, he adds only amusement value. LOL! My thoughts exactly.
Merion_Mom Posted October 4, 2005 #27 Share Posted October 4, 2005 Kayaking in Halifax...BRRRRRRR In AUGUST, it was quite warm in Halifax - the kids had a blast! (ocean kayaking, by the way - rather rougher than inland waterways) This one is easy.....the idiot that makes the coffee! Gotta say, I am eternally grateful that I'm not much of a coffee drinker, and thus don't really know good coffee from bad, so I don't suffer as much as the rest of you because of this. :D
rubrrick Posted October 4, 2005 #28 Share Posted October 4, 2005 In MHO, it's the guy that puts the pin in the anchor chain! If he were not there, the anchor could let loose at any given time, creating stopages in unwanted areas. I don't want to go farther, but imagine being stuck off the island of Catalina. That's just for the Monarch. How about being stuck off of the coast of one of the Canary Islands......Or, worse yet, how about Cannes, France.........Yep......my bet is with the crew that takes care of the winches and anchors........without them, we only could dock the ship, no tendering. Have we talked about the people that get the lugguge to your room??? Rick
greatdanemom Posted October 4, 2005 #29 Share Posted October 4, 2005 I vote the the art auction guy! I know, I know, he's not really an RCCL employee. But I couldn't resist speaking up. Those auctions drive me crazy because every time I want to sit in the Centrum I have to hear them. (No offense meant to the cruising art lovers.) I just wish they could hold them in the theatre. Beffy1167 Posted October 4, 2005 #31 Share Posted October 4, 2005 Anyone connected with the casino is useless to us! We're not gamblers (if I wanted to get rid of money easily, I could just throw it overboard) and have no need for casino employees.
teegeezfun Posted October 5, 2005 #32 Share Posted October 5, 2005 i dont drink either, but i like the social aspect of hanging out at the bars. (as an aside, there is this bartender suni on the celebrity connie that does all kinds of bottle tricks that are quite a show. ) but the wine steward. no use for him/her. phtktz3 Posted October 5, 2005 #35 Share Posted October 5, 2005 I was recently on Celebrity and had a tip envelope delivered to my stateroom with the heading: ASSISTANT HEAD HOUSECHEIF this was in addition to the room steward and his assistants envelope, when I questioned my room steward about who this person was I never really got an answer...my parents had the same run around when they asked who it was. The recommended tip was .75per day, I left nothing and later regretted that decision as my parents found out that if this tip is not left then the room steward has to give it to the person out of their tip.:(

phtktz3 Posted October 5, 2005 #37 Share Posted October 5, 2005 How do you know this? I would never take the world of an employee as to their salary. Along with the envelopes that were placed in our rooms there was a form letter that stated the recommended amount for each person. My parents were told about the room steward having to give it out of his tip money from some other pax (which may or may not be true) but if that was the case I felt bad about it. I just have a hard time tipping someone when I do not even know what service they performed for me...although the head waiter does very little for me other than recite the activities for the evening and tell dumb jokes I at least see this person and know what he has done. PhinsAndGills Posted October 5, 2005 #38 Share Posted October 5, 2005 Hands down for me, the Staff in the Spa (I know they're not RCCL, but still). I think the spa is VERY overpriced and I just don't go.
Happy ks Posted October 5, 2005 #39 Share Posted October 5, 2005 I won't get into what maitre d's and head housekeepers do for the pax. Let me just leave it that if they weren't there, you would not get anywhere close to the good service you get. My least favorite person is the one always blaring away with the announcements onboard a ship. I tune them out as best I can, but more than once have been awoken from a nice snooze on my pool lounger. My favorite part about Celebrity was they respect you enough to realize they've already given you the info in the daily newsletter. If you want to go to something, you'll be there. setcarp Posted October 5, 2005 #40 Share Posted October 5, 2005 How about the guy that is always trying to get you deals on watches and jewelery at his special venders? I am guessing he is actually an RCCL employee.

emilygrace Posted October 5, 2005 #43 Share Posted October 5, 2005 It's a tie between the CD and the Maitre 'D. I find all CDs to be slightly annoying, like they have ingested FAR too much sugar!
digital_curator Posted October 6, 2005 #44 Share Posted October 6, 2005 The children's staff. We don't have small children. I was going to say this too, but a good Adventure Ocean staff keeps the kids happy and entertained and generally out of the areas that DH and I want to enjoy, so even though we are childless, I think they are important;) I would have to say ship's photographers....I don't need to pay for awful photographs of myself (very unphotogenic) when I can ask someone to take an awful one of me for free:p Cheers,
rockyhou Posted October 6, 2005 #45 Share Posted October 6, 2005 I agree with the Photographers....I am ok with them having their set up for dress up nights...but I can't stand when they come around the dinner table. Especially the Pirate costume guy....Makes me feel like I am at Disney. I love the childrens explorations...anything to keep them entertained is worth it's weight in gold. I am sure these guys don't get paid near enough for putting up with all of our little brats for the week! Love the casino workers...especially the ones who bring me the jackpot money...But I just don't ever see them enough!

mdeane Posted October 7, 2005 #47 Share Posted October 7, 2005 At one time or another I think I have found most all of them useful. IMHO the wait staff works extremely hard all day for their money. I really get upset when folks do not tip them as they should. The spa is one thing I do not use (now I love a good spa at home) because they are overpriced and are way too pushy for their products. Have never used the beauty shop either but lots of people must or they would not be there. Sooo I guess everyone has a place for some of us.
