Cobra427SC Posted December 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2015 A few years ago, one could dine for dinner in Café Caribe with real ceramic plates and white tablecloths. Now it's "melmac/melamine" across the fleet. Having that extra ambiance, which can't be that bigga deal, was really nice when you wanted to eat upstairs. Does anyone know why they changed courses? We really loved that option...you could find a quiet table, almost "mood lighting" and decent plates with white tablecloths made for a pretty romantic setting. steve
moki'smommy Posted December 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Cost. Breakage of plates has to be a lot higher with any form of glass or ceramic than with what amounts to plastic. And it is a lot easier and cheaper to wipe off and disinfect the table than to launder the tablecloth.
floridalover5623 Posted December 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I couldn't imaging them providing ceramic plates in the buffet. The cost of breakage would be enormous. Table cloths would be nice but the place mats are so much easier to clean off & replace.
shredie Posted December 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2015 Cafe Caribe is not an option on all ships. I guess they might do a bistro type thing in the evenings on the others, but the third buffet line is only a select few. Another consideration might be weight (of the plate, not the passenger, LOL) where filling it up with stuff makes it more difficult to carry and, thus, more prone to dropping and breaking. Cobra427SC Posted December 21, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted December 21, 2015 i was only thinking of dinner. honestly, i don't recall too many instances of broken dishes (in any venue) on the many cruises we've been on. still hopin' they'll upgrade that venue for the evenings. s
MGAfhc Posted December 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2015 I wonder if Café Caribe has been sacrificed to Crab Shack. On our 4 cruises this year I looked for it a few times, but that space was either not in use or set up for Crab Shack with regular buffet service at H Court. I might have just missed it.
