Freestyle dining

Someone please help! Lol. I am going on the breakaway in April. It will be the first time our family has done Norwegian. We are veteran Royal carribean cruisers. I know all the ins and outs of Royal carribean dining. We are planning on doing 3-4 specialty restaurants and I can't figure out which nights to do them. This freestyle dining thing is throwing me off. On Royal Caribbean there are formal nights where the food in the main dining rooms is usually better. Is that the same on Norwegian. Any input would me great:). We are 2 adults and 2 eight year olds. Thanks in advance.

My sister and I just did our first NCL cruise after a number of RCI and X. No formal night on NCL. It does take some getting used to but honestly we loved it. As our freebie, we did the Dining Package, so we only ate in the specialty restaurants (or the buffet). Because we didn't have to pay, I just picked a restaurant and a time that worked for us. I did end up changing a few once we were onboard because things do change. I say just go ahead and make reservations based on your current or expected plans (shows, etc.). You can always change them later or if you see a MDR menu that interests you.

Don't stress too much about it - it will be fine.

We just got off a cruise on the Getaway, and we have been on four other NCL ships. There are no formal or semi-formal nights on NCL. The menus change every day in the main dining rooms (MDRs), but I wouldn't necessarily say that any particular day is better than another. It's simply a matter of what foods appeal to you. Once you are on board, I believe you can go to one of the dining rooms, and they will show you menus for the whole week. If you see something that you really like, then make sure to eat at one of the MDRs on that night. The menu in all of the MDRs is the same. The only difference is the atmosphere.
